"WHAT ARE YOU doing here, Snivellus," Sirius growled, subtly pushing Bonnie behind him. The swing still moved in the breeze, the sun setting sending an eerie feeling on the park. Sirius wished he had told someone where they were.
Snape grinned, his smile wicked instead of charming. "I told you, Bonnie, that he was bad for you. I told you and Lily how the pair of them were bad. This is your fault, Black. You and Potter," he sneered.
"Enlighten me," Sirius snarled back.
"The Dark Lord has plans for you, Bonnie. I cannot stray his thoughts. After all, I've already begged him to leave Lily be."
"What are you talking about?" Bonnie asked, ignoring Sirius's movements to keep her back. She stood next to him with a glare on her face.
"Narcissa wanted me to keep it a secret. We all know Regulus is a traitor. We all know about the prophecy. And we all know that you're hunting ways to kill the Dark Lord. You'll realize very soon, Bonnie Miller, that you chose the wrong side," Snape finished with a mad grin.
Bonnie gripped her wand, pointing it so quickly at Snape that he barely had time to feign not being shocked. "What the hell have you done to Regulus?" she screamed.
"Me?" Snape said, knowing he couldn't get to his wand at the moment. "I've done nothing. The Dark Lord had his way, but I believe his parents were the worst."
"Stupefy!" Bonnie shouted, but Snape knew it was coming. He deflected the spell with his wand, grinning more when Sirius and Bonnie both aimed their wands at him.
"I'm only the messenger, dearest Bonnie," Snape teased, "why so angry at me?"
Sirius shot another spell. "Where's my brother!?"
"Why should you care?"
Sirius growled, firing spell after spell. Snape realized he couldn't keep up, apparating from the park. Sirius turned sharply to Bonnie. Eyes narrowed. Fist clenched. They were fine. Everything was fine. Now, he was angry again.
Bonnie lowered her eyes, hoping his anger was not directed at her. "C'mon, sweetheart. Let's get back to James's," he said quietly despite his demeanor. He held her hand gently, squeezing it once. "Yeah?"
Bonnie nodded as they walked to James's with their wands ready. They had to be on alert.
When they walked through the barrier that protected James's house, Sirius immediately called for the boy. James appeared at the sound of his distressed mate, eyes holding guilt when they landed on Bonnie.
James ignored Sirius first, pulling Bonnie into a hug. "I'm so sorry for how I acted, love. You know I never ever want to hurt you. My mind... with my parents... I was just—"
"Upset. I understand, James," Bonnie whispered, holding him tightly. "I understand completely."
James pulled away with a determined look on his face. "I know you do, which is why what I did was wrong in so many ways. We'll make it up to you, I promise. Your birthday—"
"Snape was around," Bonnie cut him off with a grim look. She cared not about her birthday. "He said they found out about Regulus. They know the prophecy. Snape begged for Lily's life, which probably put more of a target on her back. We need to worry about her."
"What?" the red-head asked from the doorway to the kitchen with an upset look. "What did he do?"
"Taunted us. Told Bonnie she was on the wrong side. We got rid of him, but that's not to say he won't return," Sirius grumbled, pulling Bonnie to his side. "We'll look out for both of you, don't worry."
