"I'M GOING TO invite Severus to Slug's party. Do you have anyone in mind?" Lily asked as they walked out of their final exam before the holidays. Bonnie took a deep breath at the lovely tone of Lily. She was back to normal instead of threatening to hex everyone when they breathe too close to her. "Bonnie?"
"Oh, right. Er... well, to be honest, I don't want to go," Bonnie said with a frown. "He only likes me because he found out who my father is, and that's not something worth being recognized for."
Lily pouted as they made their way to lunch. She saw Severus in the hallway. He was with Mulciber and Avery, and both sneered in the direction of Bonnie more so than Lily, which surprised the hell out of both of them. Severus waved them off as he came up to meet them. "Girls, how are you?" he asked politely, eyes drifting more to Lily than Bonnie.
"Great. Would you mind coming with me to Slug's party tonight?" Lily asked Severus, and Bonnie could see stars light up in his eyes as he nodded. "Great. Bonnie, will you please go? I won't make you go to anymore dinner parties, but this will be different. Please?"
Bonnie grumbled out a string of curse words causing Severus to laugh and Lily to knock Bonnie's arm with her heavy textbook. "Fine! But that doesn't mean I'll bring someone."
"Why wouldn't you?" Severus asked. He was always so nosey, she noticed. How had she never noticed this before? "No friend willing?" he teased.
Bonnie shrugged. "Gryffindor is holding a party in spite of Slughorn since they weren't invited. Marlene and Mary will be there, so will the twins. No, I don't think anyone would be willing."
"What about Remus or Peter?" Lily asked, obviously choosing the tamer Marauders for Severus's sake. "They may go?"
"Er... I don't know. Does it really matter? I'm capable of going alone, Lils," Bonnie said as they sat in the Great Hall. Severus had left to join his table after squeezing Lily's shoulder affectionately.
Lily sighed. "I suppose you could. You'll be around me and Sev, so it'll be fine."
Bonnie mentally thanked Merlin for her nagging to finally stop. She didn't want to go to this party to begin with, and now, she's got to deal with it alone. Sure, she'd be fine alone, but Lily and Severus normally go off in their own world as Severus kicks Bonnie out of the conversation. Yes, he was nice to Bonnie, but Lily had always been his number one priority.
Pushing around her mashed potatoes silently, she heard Mary sit next to Lily and begin a conversation. A body fell into the seat next to her making her glance questionably until she realized who it was. She smiled slightly at the mess of red hair and shit-eating grin that was directed toward her.
"You look as if someone just punched your favorite puppy. What's up?" Fabian asked, grabbing a roll from in front of him. "You should be excited! The holidays are here, so spread that Christmas cheer!"
Bonnie gave him a deadpanned look.
"Okay, maybe no cheer. Seriously, what's wrong?" he asked after laughing for a moment.
Bonnie went back to her potatoes. "Nothing. I guess I don't want to go home this year, but Mum says there's a ball thing at stupid Malfoy Manor. Tonight, I have that stupid Christmas Sluggy party that's just going to be a waste of my time. So, yeah... nothing."
Fabian sniggered as he lifted his cup of pumpkin juice, some going straight into his nose. He began to choke for a moment before calming down. "Y-Yeah," he coughed. "Sounds like nothing. Those Slug things aren't fun?"
"If you enjoy listening to Slughorn talk about how great your parents are that you have to live up to, then sure!"
"Oi, sarcasm," he tutted, poking her nose. "Just don't go," he said simply.
