JAMES AND LILY were fine after a few days. James's resolve fell, and he apologized beside his pride. For the Easter holidays, Lily had given the group schedules to study for their N.E.W.T. exams. Even if there next few years would be as Order members with Auror training, the Gryffindors wanted other options after the war. Bonnie was glad they were hopeful for their futures even though Bonnie worried about the next day.
The Slytherins were angry at the loss of Regulus Black.
It was evident on their faces. When Bonnie had made eye contact with Severus Snape, he sneered. The anger and hatred in his eyes made Bonnie take a step back because for once in this life, she wondered if her new actions had cost the life of Snape. She wondered if Snape was beyond saving. She felt her throat constrict because she had wanted to save everyone, but she was finally coming to the conclusion that she would not be able to.
Now, Bonnie walked with her hand enclosed in Sirius. He was grinning to himself, knowing that he and Bonnie had never been a normal couple. They had done everything backward, and he wanted to spend an evening with no Horcruxes, no Dumbledore, none of Lily's study schedules, no Voldemort, and no Death Eaters. Those evenings were scarce, after all, and since Lily had so graciously given them this Sunday evening off... he would savor the night with his girl by his side. He knew Bonnie was itching to find the diadem in the Room of Requirement, but he was trying to keep her mind away from it right then as they began their trek to an undisclosed location.
"Where are we going, Siri?" Bonnie asked as they walked. It was just about dinner time as they left the castle, and Sirius had a jump in his step as he walked. He seemed excited as he sent her a wicked grin.
"Quidditch pitch, my darling sweetheart," he replied in a fake posh accent.
"For?"
"Must you ask so many questions?"
"Must you be so irritating?"
"Touché, sweetheart," he said with a smirk her way. Bonnie felt butterflies erupt in her stomach when he leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Come on before it gets cold."
"What?"
Sirius said nothing as they walked through the walkway to the pitch. When they made it to the pitch itself, Sirius beamed that James, Remus, and Peter had come through with the plan. A large blanket sat in the middle of the field, and a basket sat in the middle of it. There was James's record player charmed to play a song that Bonnie was not sure of, but by the look on Sirius's face, he knew it. It was utterly cliché, but Bonnie felt her heart warm at the gesture.
Bonnie had never been the type of girl to get Valentine's Day gifts or have many boyfriends. She was never the type of girl to have an anniversary or dream of a large wedding and family. Bonnie had always had a one-track mind when it came to her life now and the past: the war. It was all about whether she would survive the war that decided what her dreams would be. When she finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel as Sirius Black himself, it was ripped from her hands when he was sent to Azkaban. She never allowed herself to make a dream again because she had felt so foolish for beginning to plan a future with the man. Bonnie looked at the picnic to Sirius's hopeful face, and she threw herself at him. She had never deserved such love as Sirius had given her.
Sirius caught her, lips molding onto each other. His arms tightened around her waist as she tugged on his hair. He grinned against her lips, pulling away when they seemed out of breath. "I take it you like it, sweetheart?"
"No one has ever gone out of their way to make me happy, Sirius," Bonnie said seriously, pulling away shyly. She ducked her head and felt her face heat up. "I've never felt so loved by someone."
