THE MARAUDERS DID not hear from Bonnie the first month of summer. When James took a risk to owl Lily if she had spoken to her, Lily replied just as concerned. Apparently Marlene, Mary, Fabian, Gideon, Alice, nor Lily had heard from Bonnie. The twins were worried, but they were very focused on their Auror training. Alice couldn't do much as she was on vacation with her parents. So, the seven other Gryffindors stared at each other as they all sat in James Potter's living room. It was awkward and tense as Lily still was not comfortable around the Marauders besides Remus.
James, Sirius, and Mary sat on the couch, Sirius in the middle. Peter sat on the recliner, Marlene sitting in front of him with her back against his legs. Remus sat on the loveseat, tapping his foot anxiously, the seat next to him open. Lily paced in front of the large fireplace, not caring about James's eyes that followed her the whole time.
Marlene, lovely Marlene, finally broke the awkward silence. Staring at Sirius, she croaked, "Do you know where she lives?" Marlene was worried about Bonnie, not knowing where she was or if she was okay. Marlene would happily Floo straight into her home and cause a mess to get her out.
Sirius's head was rested in his hands as he leaned over; he shook his head as an answer. Not daring to move his eyes from the floor, he snarled out, "If that bastard even messed up a hair on her head, I'll—"
"Padfoot," James started, gulping once at the tone of Sirius's voice—he sounded murderous. "W-We don't know if he did anything—"
"Well, we don't know how good he is to her either after the way he grabbed her on the Platform," Lily countered, causing James to stare at her wide-eyed. She had easily defended Sirius.
Marlene nodded. "D'ya remember last Christmas? How terrified she was to go home... she looked like—"
"Sirius," Remus finished, glancing at his best mate worriedly. "She looked like Sirius when he would be forced to go home to his—"
"They aren't my family, Moony, so don't even say it," Sirius growled out, "nor is that my home."
"The point," Mary started, rubbing a hand on Sirius's back to help calm him down, "is that her home life must be awful."
Peter scoffed. "Of course, it's awful! I know I'm not the only one who noticed the bruises and marks all over her body when she came back to Hogwarts after Christmas."
"She had them at the Christmas Ball at Malfoys, too, didn't she, Sirius?" Marlene asked. "She flinched when I hugged her?"
"Yeah."
Sirius didn't even know what to think. He wanted to save his Bonnie from any pain, any malicious behavior on her body. He hated not knowing.
Mary frowned deeper. "So they abuse her? Can we turn them in? Fabian and Gideon could tell Moody?"
Sirius began to laugh.
It wasn't a pleasant laugh, no, it was a mocking laugh. He allowed his head to fall back as the laugh came out to hide how damn scared he was.
"Sirius," Remus warned, hating how distressed this was making him. "Stop it. Nothing is fun—"
"Of course, let's go turn in one of the pureblood families that hold high power in the Ministry!" Sirius said with a manic smile. "Let us... us KIDS... go turn in Abram Miller for abusing his child! Let's see what happens!" he paused. "You know what will happen? They'll slap his wrist and laugh about it later... better yet! They'll laugh at us, then it'll get back to Abram who will take it out on Bonnie more!"
"Enough!" Lily yelled, glaring at him. Mary had looked down in shame for even offering it. "Stop it, Black. This isn't a laughing matter... we need to help her—get her out of there."
