"Ryder Anthony, your dad is here for you," Allison called.
She was due any day now with her third son. It had been months that she and Happy had been separated. It never made seeing him any easier. It still hurt a lot.
"What's the plan for this one's birth?" he asked as he stood in the doorway.
"I already told you, I won't stop you from being a dad. If you want to be there, I will call you when I go into labor," she said.
"Daddy," Emersyn ran out of the living room.
"Hey princess," he picked her up.
She wrapped her little arms around his neck. Five-year-old Noah came out of his room down the hall. He glanced at his dad.
"How was school, son?" Happy asked.
Noah shrugged. Allison looked down the hall as her oldest came out of his room. Ryder was eight and not stupid when it came to his dad. He had heard his mother crying too many nights now and it made him angry. He didn't want to go with his father. This had been going on for a few months now and more often than not they were left with Gemma when his father had club business.
"Mom," Ryder said.
"What baby?" she asked.
"Do I have to go?"
"Yes you do. Dad wants to spend time with you too."
"Before or after he leaves us with Gemma for the Friday night party?"
"Ryder," Happy warned.
"You better not be leaving my kids with someone for a damn party Happy Lowman. You only get them two weekends a month." she snapped at him.
"Allison, don't start. I only leave them for club business. Gemma is the only person who watches them."
"That's a lie, she left us with that girl who told us how much she wants you." Ryder said.
"Victor," Allison's tone was a definite warning.
"I didn't know anything about that. I will talk to Gemma," Happy growled.
He ushered the kids out the door and to his truck. Ryder buckled himself in with a smug look on his face. Happy looked back at his oldest child and sighed.
"Why you gotta lie to your mama about shit?" he demanded.
"It wasn't a lie." Ryder insisted.
"Come on man, don't you want our family back?"
"Why so you can just leave again?"
"Boy, you better watch that smartass mouth."
Happy drove to the house he was now renting. It was a three bedroom so the boys had to share. Ryder pretty much hid in his room until Sunday night dinner at Gemma's house.
"No Allison tonight?" she asked as he entered with the three kids.
He shook his head. Kozik showed up late.
"Where you been, asshole?" Tig asked.
"Gemma sent me to see if Al would show tonight," Kozik said, glancing at Happy.
"Give it up, as long as she hates me, she ain't showing to a Sunday dinner around here," Happy said, shifting his daughter.
"Why would you do that to her anyway?"
"Fuck off. You act like you ain't ever fucked up,"
"Not with a girl like that."
Happy growled. Emersyn squirmed in his arms. He set her down so she could run off with the other kids. He was just sitting down when his burner went off. He looked down and saw his house number. He answered it quickly.
"Hap, I gotta get to the hospital but it hurts. This is way worse than any of the other kids," Allison's voice groaned in his ear.
"I'm on my way," he said.
Gemma nodded to him as he rose from the table. He took off from Gemma's for the five minute drive to his house. He walked inside to find Allison on the couch in obvious distress. She looked at him, trying hard to not cry. He didn't question anything and grabbed her stuff. He took it all to his truck and went back for her. She started to get up. He shook his head and lifted her bridal style to carry her to the truck. He grew worried the moment he saw the blood. He didn't mention it to her and put her in the truck. She groaned when he sat her on the seat.
"Sorry," he said.
"It hurts so bad," she whined.
"It's going to be all right,"
He drove her to the hospital. He carried her inside to get them taking care of her.
"Let's get her to the OR, this baby is in distress," the doctor said.
Happy was stunned. They rushed her into the operating room. He wasn't even allowed in the room right away. They brought him scrubs to quickly change so he could be there when his son was born. He was brought into the room and instructed to sit up near Allison's head. Tears streamed down her face. She was terrified that he wasn't going to make it.
"Relax, beautiful," he said.
"Happy, I'm scared," she whimpered.
"I am right here, babe. I got you."
She stared at him, her mind racing. It was such a messed up situation that she couldn't wrap her head around how they got here. She was scared and he was there. He reached out to place one hand in her's as their son made his way into the world. She never took her eyes off Happy's face as he watched them remove the baby from the incision in her belly.
He didn't cry right away and that had her on edge. Happy just watched as they began to warm the baby up. It took a few moments before he began to cry. Happy let out the breath he was holding and leaned down to kiss Allison's forehead. He could only hope that this birth would help heal his family.
"Here he is mom," the nurse showed them the baby.
"Al, you did amazing," Happy said.
He looked down at Allison. She was pale on the table.
"Get him and the baby out of here, we are going to have to open her up. She is hemorrhaging," the doctor yelled.
Happy was pulled from the room to follow the nurse with the baby. He was terrified about what was going on with his wife. He needed to call the club as he knew that they were waiting to hear about the baby. He was nervous as he didn't know what was going on with Allison.
"Hap," Tig's voice met his ears in the hallway.
Happy just looked at him.
"How's Allison?" Tig asked.
"Still in surgery. She started bleeding a lot," he said.
"The baby?"
"The baby is out and ok. Now they are working on Allie."
They all ended up in the waiting room waiting on answers. Happy sighed heavily. He hadn't even gone to check on his son. He was worried about his wife.
"I don't know what I'm gonna do if I lose her. I can't do this shit without her," he said quietly.
"She is strong. She will make it," Tig told him.
"I fucked up."
"Yeah you did."
"I have to fix it. I have to get my family back."
"That's the first smart thing you have said in a while."
Happy nodded.
