Author note: I did go back and change Maddox to Mason in this book. If I missed one let me know please. Thanks. As always comments and votes are much appreciated.
Allison spent a lot of time at the hospital while Maia recovered from the incident. She gained weight quickly just by being fed which told Allison exactly how the baby was treated. Happy was livid. He let his wife deal with it all while he was still helping them look for Lyssa. Her mother was charged with Maia's kidnapping. They both knew it wouldn't be over until Lyssa was dealt with.
Maia was released after a week but was on weekly checkups to ensure that she was getting back on track. It was easy to add her back into the chaos they had at home. Allison moved the pack n play into the master bedroom and refused to let Maia out of her sight for long. It was difficult when she only trusted herself and Happy with the little girl. She allowed the prospects to run the two older boys to school and managed to get a shower before Happy headed out for the day.
Gemma stopped Happy before he made it into the clubhouse. He stared at her, convinced that she was going to lecture him about leaving his family so much to deal with everything.
"How's Allison?" she asked calmly.
"Pretty much has Maia super glued to her side," he admitted.
"Still only leaving her with you?"
Happy nodded. He knew it wasn't healthy but he didn't know how to stop it. He sighed.
"She will be all right. It may just take some time," Gemma said.
"I hope so, Gem. She has her back in our room and won't even leave her with the prospects to grab a shower or anything. I am pretty sure she takes her to the bathroom with her when she has to go," he said.
"Think she needs professional help?"
Happy shrugged. He didn't even know if that would work. He worried about his wife when he left the house.
"I just need to find this bitch and end this shit," he said.
"No doubt that you will," Gemma said.
Happy nodded and continued into the clubhouse for Juice's update on the hunt for Lyssa. He didn't have much to give the tattooed man as Lyssa had pretty much gone off the radar. She was either using cash or laying really low since her mother had been picked up with the baby. Happy growled in frustration. A crow eater walked his way and Juice adamantly shook his head. This girl was new and hadn't gotten the memo that Happy was off limits and a bit off his rocker at the moment. The girl backed off immediately. Juice was glad that he didn't have to pick the girl up from the ground after a bad encounter with the Tacoma Killer.
"I'm still monitoring it all Hap. I have it set to alert me if she makes any kind of traceable move," Juice said.
"Good, I gotta run to the police station to check in with Unser about all of this since the kidnapping was reported because of the shooting," he replied.
Juice nodded. Happy headed out. He pulled up to the station in less than ten minutes. He wanted to know everything the officers knew about the situation.
"Morning Hap," Eglee greeted as he walked in the door.
"Where's Unser?" Happy didn't bother with formalities.
"We haven't spoken with her yet. She invoked her right to an attorney and until he shows his face we are at a standstill," Unser told him.
"You've been at a standstill for three days."
"I'm sorry Hap. I can't do anything. My hands are tied."
Happy growled again. The frustrations were mounting. He wanted to know that his family was safe and that his daughter would be fine with his wife. He wanted to ease Allison's worry about letting Maia out of her sight. He only had one other way to do that.
He left the station and called his mother as he sat on his bike. His aunt answered the phone.
"Hey," he said.
"Happy, how is the family?" Rosa asked.
"They are all right. I gotta ask ma something real quick."
"Of course nephew."
He heard the phone being passed.
"Happy, what's going on?" his mother asked.
"Ma, I am worried about Allison. She is in overprotective mode with Maia right now." he said quickly.
"Of course she is. You just got her back and a psycho starved her."
"So I shouldn't worry that she doesn't allow anyone else other than me to be left alone with her?"
"Not after a week. Give her time and she will settle down."
"You think so?"
"Of course. Allison thinks she failed you and Maia right now. She doesn't see that her getting shot as the reason that Maia was taken. She sees it as a failure on her part. She just needs some reassurance that you don't blame her and that Maia is going to be all right."
"So what do I do to help her? Ma, I don't blame her at all. She did everything she could."
"You need to tell her that, son."
"Thank you ma."
"I love you son."
"Love you too, ma. We will be down to see you soon."
He got off the phone. That night when he headed home, he was ready for what was waiting for him. He walked in. There was screaming before he made it to the door.
He rushed in the door. His oldest was in the living room with his siblings aside from Maia. Mason was screeching on the living room floor.
"Bud, where is mom?" Happy asked Ryder.
"Kitchen making dinner. Mason is fine," Ryder said.
Happy looked over at his youngest son who was screeching with delight at his sister who was playing with the little boy. Happy felt his nerves subside. He went to the kitchen to check on his wife. Allison had Maia in a bouncer beside her. She glanced over at him as he walked in.
"Hey beautiful," he said, kissing her cheek.
"Hey, how was your day?" she asked.
"It was good. How was your day here?"
"It wasn't bad. Kids have been pretty chill. Mason found his voice as you can hear."
Happy chuckled. He could hear his boy still playing with his sister.
"Al," Happy sat at the table.
"What?" she asked.
"You know I don't blame you for any of this shit right?"
"What do you mean?"
"If anything the Maia stuff is completely my fault. I am the one who brought all this crap on our family. I am the one to blame for all of it."
She stared at him for a moment. He remained completely serious. She began to cry.
"Hap," she started.
He stood and pulled her into his arms.
"I love you Allison Janae and you are my entire life. I don't know what I would do without you. Our kids are so lucky to have you as their mother and as much as I don't deserve you as my wife I am so thankful that you are in my life and that you love me," he said.
"I love you too," she whispered.
"No more blaming yourself. Maia is home and she is getting better. She has you in her life and she will be just fine,"
She nodded. He kissed her lips and let her go back to making dinner. He picked Maia up and walked out of the room.
