Chapter XLIX

The rain is pouring outside her windowpane as she gazed into nothingness. It would've been better to spend this cold afternoon with him but he has to look for Carla. She's nowhere to be found after Aga broke up with her and that flurried him a lot. He phoned her family in the Philippines but she hasn't come home yet. That frightens him and so he spends time to know her whereabouts. His mind got engrossed to the situation resulting to his shortcomings in their relationship. Lea understands his situation but days turned to weeks that his attention got fully caught by it. The night came without hearing anything from Aga. It was supposed to be their dinner date but time hit ten o'clock in the evening without his presence. Lea stepped out the firm and paced her direction when a car honk.

He pulled over and went out his car, "babe!"

Lea rolled eyes then continue walking when Aga ran to hold her hand, "babe, sorry. I went out the city kaya ngayon lang ako nakarating"

"What's the use of your phone?" she lifted her brow.

"It's on my table. I left in a hurry. Nakalimutan ko. Babe, sorry. Have you had dinner?"

"You're not mindful of the time noh?! It's ten in the evening. I wasted hours of waiting for your reply. You're starving me to death"

"Babe, sorry na nga. Hindi na mauulit" his apologetic face ain't effective.

She scoffs, "I've heard that few times from you but look! You're hours late again!"

"I'm trying to work things out here, babe. Please understand naman"

"Ikaw lang ba, Ags!? I am also doing my part here. I've stretched out my patience further enough to understand you! All I ask of you is time but these days ang hirap mong hagilapin! When was the last time you came to see me?! Last week? A week before that?! Then you're asking me to understand?! Isn't that enough!? Am I not understanding enough for you!?"

"Lea, I am trying the best I could despite my foibles! Kahit pagod ako I find time to message you. Kahit ang dami kong ginagawa I find time to update you ... to call you! Now this! I had a long day searching for Carla but I came to see you! To be with you!"

Her patience reached its optimum limit and slapped him, "Do you hear yourself, Aga!? You talk like I am a burden to you! That I am taking so much of your time! Aga, nahihirapan din ako! It's not just you! I could've avoided you because you're getting married pero nagpakatanga ako!"

The waterworks begun.

"I don't have choice. Pinasok ko to, eh. I stand by my decision because I love you!" she wiped off her tears upon taking steps away from him.

He pulled her waist from behind, "babe, sorry. I didn't mean to sound like that. You're not a burden to me and will never be. You know I love you so much. Sorry, babe. I'm sorry"

She feels the warmness of his breath on her neck as he talks. He kisses her head as he tightens his embrace but she unwraps his arms around her then faced him, "there's an easiest way out of this, Ags. Let's just stop this kung pagod ka na. Just choose her over me ng hindi ka na mahirapan pa"

A cold water seems to drench all over him, he wide-eyed gaze, "What!? Lea, you're giving up on us!? Ganun lang!?".

But then Lea seems deaf from anything he said, she walks to her car while he scurries to chase his in fumed girlfriend."Lea, ano ba!? Mag usap naman tayo ng maayos! Lea!". She drives away from him, crying. It isn't the way she perceives this to be. The more she tries to understand any of these, the more she feels it is wrong. That trying to recover what's already gone is outside the bounds of possibility.
