ELISA

I don't know what happened. I didn't receive a text or reply from my husband until I got home. I also asked Alex if he knew where his friend went but he also had no idea. Hindi niya rin nasundo si Eric kaya si Evan na ang sumundo. Halos 3 oras naghintay ang bata sa school kaya tumawag na ang teacher niya sakin para ipasundo ang bata. Kanina pa ko hindi mapakali rito sa loob ng bahay. Ang sabi niya, dadating siya within an hour. Pero walang dumating na Dominic sa opisina ko. Hindi ko na natapos ang ginagawa ko kakahintay sa kanya. Hindi ko maiwasang hindi mag-isip lalo na at baka hindi pa nakakaalis si Leslie dito sa Geneva.

I trust Dominic so I hope he just went somewhere important.

"Ma, where's dad? Uuwi na po ba siya?" Eric asked me.

I sat on the sofa and bit my lower lip.

"Ah, maybe he just went somewhere. Matulog ka na anak..."

"Goodnight mama..."

"Goodnight..."

My son reached me and kissed me on the cheek before he entered his room.

Ng mawala sa paningin ko ang anak ko ay tinawagan ko si Alex para papuntahin dito sa bahay. Agad kong binigay sa kanya ang address namin. Ilang oras lamang ay nakarating rin siya rito sa sa bahay. Pareho kaming panay ang text at chat kay Dominic. Hindi ko pa nasasabihan si Marco sa nangyayari ngayon. Alam kong busy siya ngayon at ayoko siyang istorbohin pa.

"Nasaan na kaya ang lalaking 'yon?" Tanong ni Alex habang panay ang pindot niya sa kanyang cellphone. Pareho kaming naka-soot ng jacket dahil nagbabalak kaming lumabas mamaya kung sakaling hindi pa rin dumating si Dominic. Malakas din ang ulan sa labas ngayong gabi kaya lalo akong nag-aalala.

Where are you, Dominic?

"Ireport na kaya natin sa–" Naputol ang sasabihin ni Alex ng may mag-doorbell.

He's here!

Pero... hindi siya nagdo-doorbell.

I stopped in front of our smart door lock.

"Siya na siguro 'yan," Alex said.

I shook my head and opened the door. Two uniformed policemen approached me.

"Bonsoir, madame. Est-ce que Dominic Saavedra habite ici?" | Good evening, ma'am. Does Dominic Saavedra live here? |

"Oui," | Yes |

I answered them.

A policeman snatched something from his wallet and lifted it in front of my face. He's showing me their ID. "Nous sommes de Phoenix Investigations Sàrl - détective privé Genève et nous sommes ici pour vous informer que la voiture de votre mari a été trouvée dans le village de Chexbres près de Vevey et Montreux," | We're from Phoenix Investigations Sàrl - détective privé Genève and we're here to inform you that your husband's car found in Chexbres village near Vevey town and Montreux |

"Qu'est-ce ... que lui est-il arrivé? Pourquoi sa voiture est-elle là-dedans?" | What... what happened to him? Why is his car in there? |

Nagkatinginan lang silang dalawa. I have a bad feeling about this.

"Que lui est-il arrivé? Où est mon mari? Où est-il..." | What happened... to him? Where's my husband? Where is he...|

"Nous n'avons pas retrouvé son corps car la voiture a explosé juste après l'accident. Mais ses affaires personnelles sont sur notre station." | We didn't find his body because the car exploded right after the accident. But his personal belongings are at our station |

I almost fell over what I heard. Alex quickly came to support me.

No... what's happening? This is just a dream, right?

My knees crumbled and I started to cry.

"Notre équipe recherche maintenant son corps au bord du lac Léman. Pour le moment, nous voulons que vous nous accompagniez pour voir l'endroit où l'accident s'est produit." | Our team is now searching for his body at the lake Geneva. I was deaf to what I heard.

Hindi ko kaya...

"Why... Why just now?"

"Je suis désolé madame. Mais un passant vient de nous signaler l'accident après qu'il a explosé il y a des heures." | I'm sorry ma'am. But a passerby just reported to us the accident after it exploded hours ago |

"No... he's alive!" Tumayo ako kahit nanginginig ang buong katawan ko.

"Je veux le voir! S'il vous plaît..." | I want to see him! Please... |

"But ma'am—"

"Ma'am Elisa... please, kumalma ka muna..." Alex whispered to me but I ignored him.

"Bring me to the location! Hindi pwede! Buhay pa ang asawa ko! Ako ang hahanap sa kanya!"

I was dumbfounded while watching their searching operation for my husband. Alex and I are standing beside the road as I'm hugging Dominic's belongings.

"C–can you tell me, Alex.... that this is just a nightmare?" I asked him as I looked away.

"Ma'am Elisa..." I closed my eyes and felt the cold air that slam our bodies.

According to the police investigation, my husband's car may have lost its brake before it fell and exploded. And since my husband had nowhere else to run, he might have jumped into the lake to save himself.

Hopefully, that's what happened. Hopefully, he survived. I hope he is okay...

"God knows how much I'm thankful that you gave me a chance to be with you. I'm always praying that we'll both have our own happy ending that you deserve. I once said to God that If you're not my end, then I don't know how to start anymore."

I cried again when I remembered one of his words that he said to me. He didn't have an idea that time that he's giving me a hint of what will happen to him.

"Ma'am!" I wiped away my tears when a police officer came to us.

"Did you find him? Where is he?" Alex held me to calm me down.
