I saw Stephen earlier inside the coffee shop. He was typing on his laptop when I saw him. mukha rin siyang seryoso sa ginagawa niya. Kahit naman hindi niya sabihin, alam ko na it’s Irene Rivera’s case he’s working.
Hindi ko alam kung bakit gustong-gusto niyang buksan iyong kaso, alam naman niya na mapapahamak lang siya.
I grab my wallet and went to the coffee shop, he’s still there. I ordered my favorite blend of coffee and took a deep breath before pulling the chair on the front of him.
“Hey, are you still mad at me?”
“I wish I could be mad at you, Ericka”he replied. But he’s still not looking at me.
“You look so busy lately”I said. “Still Irene’s case?”
He nodded. “Still no update…”
I know that he’s just wasting his time on that case. Hindi ko lang masabi sa kanya na nagaaksaya lang siya ng oras dahil alam ko na magagalit lang siya sa akin.
“They are good at hiding evidence”I looked at him while sipping my coffee.
“I wish I could help you, but there’s nothing I can do…”
He looked at me and smiled. “Why are you here?”
“I just want to ask if your still mad at me”I replied. “We’re still friends, right?”
“It’s hard to make friends with the person who hurt you, Ericka”and it feels like a sudden stab on my chest.
“But I’m trying”
“Sorry”alam ko na hindi sapat ang sorry sa ginawa ko.
Sinaktan ko siya.
Pinatay ng pamilya ng taong mahal ko iyong kaibigan niya.
Ang bigat no’n para sa kanya.
He nodded. “I know that it isn’t me, but I hope he protects you better than I can”
Silence.
“Bakit hindi mo mabitawan iyong kaso ni Irene?”umiwas siya ng tingin sa akin at sinara ang laptop niya.
“Why are you interested in her case?”he asked.
“I just want to know.”I replied. “Sino ba talaga siya?”
He smiled and looked at me. “My ex-girlfriend”
My lips parted when he said that Irene is his ex-girlfriend. Kaya naman pala gano’n na lang iyong bigat ng naramdaman niya. Kaya naman pala gano’n na lang siya kadesperado na buksan iyong kaso.
Kaya naman pala.
“She’s my ex-girlfriend, Ericka”he repeated. “They said that there’s no perfect love story, but we were. She’s like you…”
“Today is her Death Anniversary…”
“Gusto mo samahan kita sa kanya?”I guess that’s the least I could do for him.
“How about your boyfriend? Magseselos na naman siya kapag nakita niya na magkasama tayong dalawa…”I smiled and stood up.
“I’ll text him na lang, tara na”
Nauna akong lumabas ng coffee shop at nakasunod naman siya sa akin. Pagsakay ko ng kotse niya ay nakita ko iyong bouquet ng flowers sa tabi ng driver’s seat. Alam ko na para ito kay Irene. He drove to the cemetery, all this time nakasunod ako sa kanya.
I texted Twixx where am I, pero napapansin ko na may dalawang lalaki na nakasunod sa akin and I know that it’s Axel’s body guard who’s looking after us right now.
