"Ke...kel... It's... Matt.." she managed to get the words out, still panting

As soon as she let the words out, I was already out of my place and walking as fast as I could to the door.

I quickly apologized to the teacher and left.

I followed Nat to where Matt was, only to see him beating the shit out of that guy, Jack.

"Matt, what are you doing!?" I whisper-yell at him

Thank god the hallway was empty but I'm sure the news will travel around as soon as the fight's over.

"Precious, stay out of this." Matt says and throws another punch at Jack

"Matt, stop! The guy is gonna die!" I yell but no use because Matt doesn't stop

I walk to him and place my hand on his shoulder and squeeze it a little, calming him and trying to pull him away. He relaxes under my touch and stands up from the semi-unconscious Jack

"Ms. Kent. Mr. Knight. In my office, right now." the principal orders as he witnesses the situation

Matt and I look at each other, knowing we've screwed up big time.

"Now!" the principal says again and Matt and I both walk to his office while he calls the nurse to take away Jack and get him bandaged

"Now, how would you explain whatever happened in the hallway?" Mr. Kingston, the principal demands

"It was a small fight." Matt says with a stern, cold expression on his face

"A fight that resulted the other guy to be half unconscious is what you call small?" Mr. Kingston says, raising his voice a little

"Well we weren't the wrong ones if you would just listen to our side of the story." I snap, shocking Matt and the principal both

I had absolute no clue why Matt had beaten up Jack but I decided to bring out the Ashley story. We had to report whatever Jack did to Ashley.

"Tell me." Mr. Kingston demanded

"Well we saw Jack forcing Ashley and then we went to help her out when Jack started the fight. So technically he started the fight and not us. We only went to help Ashley because Jack was forcing her to do something she didn't want to. So as far as I know, it was Jack's fault and not ours. Even though I would agree that we continued the fight but only as self defense." I explain and turn to Matt to see him, stunned

"Well Mr. Knight here has been getting into a lot of trouble lately and we had let him go last time with a warning. But now he gets into a fight again and beats someone until he's unconscious so he'll be suspended for a week while you Ms. Kent with be in detention until your exams start." he says

I feel Matt tense up beside me and I know why. His dad would be contacted if he were to be suspended. I have to do something.

"Who said Matt was the one who beat the shit out of Jack?" I find myself blurting out, with my voice in a challenging tone

As soon as I finished my sentence, Matt's and the principal's heads whipped to me with shock and surprise evident on both their faces.
