Chp 51

"What if you had it all

KELLY'S POV

I lead the way to the library and Jay and I both stand at one of the corners of the room.

"Speak." I say in a monotonous tone

"Listen squirt, I'm really very sorry for everything I said that day. I didn't mean any of it. I could never call you selfish because you can never be selfish. You're the most selfless person I've ever known and you deserve the world. I never meant to call you a loner because you are capable of making amazing friends and you've proved that by befriending the girls and guys, not that you had to prove anything to anyone but-" he rambles but I cut him off

"Why'd you say it then?" I ask, the hurt probably evident in my voice

"I was just having a really bad day and then you snapped at me and it hurt me that you of all people didn't understand my situation and then a lot of stuff had been happening since morning and it all go too much to handle and then you said the stuff about academics and I took everything the wrong way but then when I thought about it, I realized you were saying it all for my benefit. I'm really really sorry, squirt. I hurt you, I swear I didn't mean to." he explains

I take a few steps forward and wrap him in a hug. I know he needed it because I needed it too.

"I know, Jay-Jay, I know. You'd never hurt me intentionally. I love you." I reassure him which results in him hugging me tighter and I gently rub his back

"I love you too, squirt." he tells me and places a kiss on my forehead as we break the hug

"Want to go for a ice cream after school today to catch up?" I suggest as we walk out of the library

"Yes please. It's been so long since we spent time with each other, like just the two of us." he agrees 

"The war's over then?" Ryder says as Jay and I enter the cafeteria and take our seats

Jay goes and sits opposite GG and very unusually tries to ignore her but steals glances at her when she isn't looking. I'll make sure to ask about what's that about to Jay later.

I take my usual seat opposite Matt who is grinning at me right now.

"Yep. It's over." Jay tells him with a grin

"Oh thank god! I was seriously dying being the middle communicator between them." Matt says and lets out a dramatic sigh

"Shut up, dramaqueen." I tell him and playfully roll my eyes and he only grins

"How are y'all's exam prep goin?" Jo asks

Just as Aiden was about to speak, my phone rang 

'Home'

The caller ID read. 

"Hey, sweetheart." I say

"Elly, please come back." she says, sobbing

"What happened, baby?" I ask, softly and I see Matt giving me a concerned look but I just shake my head at him as if to say 'everything's alright' and excuse myself from the others and leave to go the the football ground which will probably be empty right now

I go near a tree and sit down with my back resting on the bark of the tree.

"Daddy is really sick and mommy keeps crying all the time." she says and starts to cry

The voice of her cries broke my heart into pieces.

"Listen to me, princess. Daddy is going to be completely fine. I will call mommy and see what the situation is. Just know that your Elly is here and that she won't let anything bad happen to any of us, okay?" I assure her and her cry slows down

"I love you, Elly." she says

"I love you too, sweetheart." I tell her

As soon as she hangs up the call, the tears that I was holding back start to fall uncontrollably and I just hug my knees to my chest and bury my head in my knees and silently let the tears just fall.

I wanted to call up mom and ask her what happened but she would be at work right now and dad would probably be resting and I didn't want to disturb either of them so I decided on calling them later in the evening.

Finally, when I ran out of tears to cry, I stood up and walked back to the cafeteria. 

I know normally when you cry, you get red-eyed and puffed cheeks and all but for me that shit never happened. I could cry for hours and still walk out of the room like nothing happened and no one would know. I don't know if it was like this by birth or did I acquire it with practice.

"Hello everybody." I say as I take my seat opposite Matt

"Where'd you go?" Jay asked

"I got a call from home." I shrug and we all get into a conversation 

Matt, Jay, Zeke and I talk about our plans for preparing for the upcoming exams while the others plan on the parties we'll be going to after the exams are over.
