Out of time, all out of fight

you are the only thing in life that I got right

Everything started off perfect. Everyone knew you'd be together forever and so did you guys, it was love at first sight. It was supposed to be perfect always, but things don't always go to plan. After two years of you and Luke being the dream couple for so many people, things changed. In the beginning Luke would come home every night and eat dinner with you, cuddle with you, take you out. While he was on tour, he would call once or twice a day or whenever he got the chance and stayed loyal to you. Now, Luke rarely came home when he was off tour. You waited for him. While he was on tour, he rarely called but you still waited for him. Now it was all about you waiting and him doing whatever he pleased. He was coming home from tour and you'd told him you'd pick him up from the airport. He responded with a simple "okay" and let the conversation end. You knew it would be the same, but you wouldn't let it. No matter how much you loved Luke, he didn't show the same feeling back. It wasn't fair to you and your life and it wasn't fair to Luke. If you wanted out of the relationship, you'd get out of the relationship. If he wanted to be free, then he'll be free. So, the day you picked up Luke you hugged him tightly and exchanged very few words on the ride home. Of course right as you got home he went upstairs to sleep, even though you knew he wasn't tired. This continued for the next few days, he was supposed to be home for a quite a while this time and you didn't know how long you could handle the nonexistent trust or love between the two of you. There was just too much tension and being with him physically but not emotionally was hurting you. Luke acted so oblivious, like he didn't think anything was wrong between the two of you. You didn't even sleep in the same bed as him anymore, and he still thought everything was okay. You'd try to bring it up, but he'd shrug it off and slam the door in your face, literally. One night, while you were both sitting in the living room, you finally had enough of it. The silence was killing you, drilling into your ears and begging you to speak up. The fact that you could scoot barely 3 feet and touch him forced a feeling of longing and sadness upon you and you couldn't take it any longer. "Luke we need to talk." You sigh, looking at him with no emotion. He gave you an uninterested look and responded, "I'm too tired to get into the argument I know you've been trying to bring up. I'll talk about it with you tomorrow." Luke got up to go upstairs, but you stopped him by quickly standing up and placing yourself in front of him. He definitely wasn't tired, he'd only woken up a few hours ago and it was already mid-day. "No, we're gonna talk about this now." Luke rolled his eyes and crossed him arms, giving off a look that screamed "I don't care." You stepped back a few feet and took a long breath trying to put together your words. You wanted what you were about to say to hit him hard, but still wanted to be loving about it although he didn't deserve it. "You know this isn't working," you started quietly. Luke's face dropped as he realised that this was happening. "and I don't think I can handle it anymore. We were supposed to be that perfect couple everyone always told us we were, but we're not that anymore. You never even talk to me anymore, Luke. This is affecting me and it's not fair. You make it seem like you wanna be free, so guess what, you're free. I can't do it anymore. I'm out of fight." You begin to stutter and choke on your words, everything becoming overwhelming. The look on Luke's face was devastated but it was too late. "We're out of time, sorry." You begin to turn around to walk out, but Luke grabs your arm and stops you. He's crying, not even attemting to stop the endless tears flowing down his face. All he manages to do is shake his head and calm his breathing while he grips your arm in attempt to stop you from leaving. "Don't go, please." Luke mumbles, pulling you away from the door and into the living room. You sit on the couch with him as he prepares himself to talk. You let him take his time, though, he seemed to be deep in thought. He lightly grabs your hand and traces shapes into your palm while he calms his breathing and thinks of what to say. You watch as his chest heaves up and down and his wet eyelashes gently flutter across his cheeks each time he blinks. His long fingers move across your hand like a paint brush on a canvas. "I'm sorry about what I've become," Luke starts, looking you in the eyes for a second but looking back down at your hands again. This is the most physical contact you two have had in months. "and I'm sorry that I'm such a shitty boyfriend and I'm sorry that I'm making you sad. I've let fame get to me. I can't do anything right, you know? When I was younger I could never find anything for me because I sucked at everything. Even school wasn't for me and my mom is a fucking teacher." Luke took a deep breath, "But you, you're the only thing in life that I got right. I know it's terrible that it took you leaving for me to realise it and I'm sorry, but please, I love you." Luke finished, still looking down at your now interlocked fingers. You brought your hand up to his chin and tapped it lightly, signalling for him to look at you. Once his eyes met yours, it felt like you guys fell in love all over again. "I'm not going to leave." You sigh loudly. "I won't leave. But we're going to work on this." Luke nodded and grabbed your face in his large hands, connecting your lips with passion. "I love you more than anything." Luke mumbles against your lips. Not everything is perfect but you have to find courage to make it better.
