=A Blessed Life=

*Habakkuk 3:17-19
"17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments."

Misconceptions about Blessedness:
1. Physically Fit.
2. Loved by People.
3. Successful.
4. Wealthy.
5. Talented.

What is Blessedness in the Bible?
-a favor or gift bestowed by God thereby bringing happiness.
-a special favor, mercy, or benefit from the Lord.

Who is Habakkuk?
-prophet
-name: 'wrestler'

*Habakkuk 1:2-4
"2 How long, O LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not save?
3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted."

Habakkuk's Bad Experiences:
1. Violences.
2. Injustices.
3. Wrongdoing of his people.
4. Destruction.
5. Strife and Conflict.
6. The law is paralyzed.

"Despite of these, Habakkuk responded right."

*Habakkuk 3:17
"17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,

But Habakkuk responded:

18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

1. Habakkuk commits to praising God regardless of external circumstances.

*Philippians 4:4
"4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!"

"We can always choose to praise the Lord."

Reasons to Rejoice:
a. As Christians we can even rejoice in the midst of trial and suffering because of the example established by Christ Jesus.

*Hebrews 12:2b
"2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God"

b. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit.

c. The Joy of the Lord is our strength.
*Nehemiah 8:10b
"This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

2. Habakkuk was praising God specifically for God's salvation.
*Habakkuk 3:1-2
"1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth.

shigionoth: musical term

2 LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

It happened 800 years before Habakkuk.

"If God did great things then,
He can do great things now."

3. Habakkuk recognized the Lord as His strength.
*Habakkuk 3:19
"19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights...

heights: bad experiences

...For the director of music. On my stringed instruments."

"His ways are not our ways, therefore He can be trusted."

"God wants the best for us even if it's hard."

You're Blessed...
1. If your joy is dependent on God.
2. If you depend on God's salvation.
3. If you keep God's promises as source of your strength.
