*Exodus 7:14-15
"14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.

*Stubborn

15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake.

1. Moses was instructed by God to do the task.

staff: symbol of God's power

*Exodus 7:1-2
"1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.

*God gave Moses power and authority.

2 You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country.

*Exodus 7:16-20
"16 Then say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the desert. But until now you have not listened.
17 This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD : With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.
18 The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.' "

"By this you will know that I am the Lord."

The Plagues God Brought Against Egypt Had Specific Purposes
a. To bring punishment against Egypt.

*Genesis 15:13-14
"13 Then the LORD said to him, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.
14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.

b. To show to Pharaoh that He is the Almighty God.
c. To confront and attack the Egyptian gods.

Egyptian gods:
+Khnum (The God of the Source of the Nile)
-He was thought to create the human beings from the clay of the Nile River and placed them in their mother's womb.

+Satis (Upper Egyptian Goddess)
-Her function is in fertility who grants the desire of those who search for love.

+Anuket (The Goddess of the Nile)
-She was worshipped as a protective deity during childbirth.

+Hapi (The God of the Fertile Mud of the Nile)
-The farmers relied on him for their good harvest.

"The gods of Egypt are unable to protect their territory."

*Exodus 20:3-5
"3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

*Matthew 6:6
"6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

*Exodus 7:16-20
19 The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt--over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs'-and they will turn to blood. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars."
20 Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood.

2. Moses carried out the task assigned by God.
3. Result of Moses' Obedience.

*Exodus 7:20-25
"20 Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood.
21 The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.

"The Nile river provided Egyptians water, food, transportation and excellent soil for growing food."

"Turning the Nile to blood resulted to death of millions of fishes, and the water became unusable."

22 But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.

"Satan is a great imitator."

*2 Corinthians 11:14
"14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

23 Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart.
24 And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river.
25 Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.

"Main Causes of Plagues (of Egypt): Wickedness and Stubborness"

Personal Reflections:
1. Is my heart stubborn, not obeying the will of God?
2. Are their any other gods in my life othet than Jesus Christ?

"We must not ignore God's Word and warnings because His Words are true, and He will accomplish all He declares."

*Revelation 21:7-8
"7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

Implications:
1. Consider God's Word seriously.
2. Obey His commands.
3. Repent and live a life of righteousness.
