"Patience is not simply the ability to wait-- it's how we behave while we're waiting."
-Joyce Beyer

=A Patient Waiter=

-able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.

When the Messiah comes:
*He would:
-restore their country
-bring back the people who had been driven away.
-make the nation safe.
-set up a fair government.
-rule with righteousness.
-bring peace and happiness

*Luke 2:26
"26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ."

While waiting...

*Luke 2:25
"25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him."

-Simeon: Hebrew= "he has heard"
-Very old (over 200 years old)
-Living in righteousness
-He has a deep commitment
-Spirit-filled
-Hoping relentlessly

*Do old people have any excitement in their lives?
*Do they have things they want to do and see?
*Are they interested in what's happening around then?

*Galatians 5:22-23
"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

*Romans 12:12
"12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

"When there is no HOPE in the future, there is NO POWER in the present."
-John Maxwell

While Waiting...
*Simeon: Hebrew= "he has heard"
-Very old (over 200 years old)
-Living in righteousness
-He has a deep commitment
-Spirit-filled
-Hoping relentlessly

*Luke 2:36-37
"36 There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,
37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

*Anna: Hebrew (Hannāh or Chanah) = "grace"or "favor"
-She was very old.
-She was physically weak.
-She was a widow.
-She loved the house of God.
-She was a devoted worshipper.

*Psalms 84:10
"10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."

"When you turn your WORRY into WORSHIP, God will turn your battles into blessings!"

*Luke 2:22-24,27-30
"22 When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"),
24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons."
27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required.
28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

-Simeon personally touched the Messiah.

29 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.

-He died deeply satisfied, grateful and at peace with God.

30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,

-Simeon had seen the Messiah with his own eyes.

*Luke 2:38
"38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem."

-She personally witnessed Jesus, the Messiah.
-She was used by God to proclaim the good news.

*Isaiah 40:27-31
"27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"?

-complain: negative effect of being impatient

28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

-In the waiting, we need strength and power.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
