A sharp featured picture of a man with gunmetal grey eyes popped up on the screen while major Thomas started, "Ahmad Ibrahim. Born in Saudi Arabia but was raised in Russia. Joined the army at eighteen and excelled in all areas before joining special forces."
A few more pictures flashed on the screen, showing Ahmad in uniform as he climbed into an F-22,others of where he posed with his team and the most recent of him sited while dressed in traditional attire.
"We have reason to believe that Ahmed is working with the Russians even though they swear his rogue. This is your mission Alvin, while your team secures the nukes you will handle Ahmed...." I cut him off before he can go any further.
"With all due respect sir isn't this a CIA job?and this is out of my units jurisdiction. And worse off alone...?" I interrupted as i lean forward in my seat. No doubt my insubordination will likely be addressed later. However right now I could hardly give two shits.
"This is what you were trained for soldier. Team Phoenix is known for its silence on the ground, there's no other unit equipped better than yours Commander. Besides your training was more intense than even that of the CIA and that's saying a lot." Colonel Andrews spoke as he raised a taunting eyebrow at me.
Now here is the thing with Andrews. He was a colonel with a penchant for trouble. The guy was corrupt and biased. He came from the army and had hated my unit the very first time we meet. Lincoln had insulted him indirectly after he made some stupid comment about being lucky when we beat his team in our very ever joint training mission few years ago. It didn't help that my uncle excelled far above him as major general of the armed forces. The guy hated my family with a passion. I couldn't be surprised if any of this was by his influence.
And what the fuck is he saying about my training, its one thing to train and another to execute ones training. Besides it's been like five years since I upgraded to commander. I'm no coward and I don't doubt my capabilities but let's be honest I'm not exactly in top form for spy shit. And someone who excelled in all areas?!. What is this a suicide mission?.
"...Devlin?"
"Yes sir." fuck you asshole I have kids. Why don't you go yourself, you old fool?! I thought bitterly.
"Good then its settled. Team hawk will be your eyes above. You leave with your team immediately your medicals are out which is in exactly two hours time." The old goat said as he looked from his watch to me,completely ignoring and over looking the two superiors in the room.
And they say I'm crazy?
God I hate this guy.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A few clouds scattered overhead as the plane made its way to its mark. The heart of the Saudi Arabian desert. The unit were preparing to jump, knowing they had to be stealthy.
"Okay, let's get this shit show on the road. Ink and Hutch secure the nukes. Tiff and Riot you're on clean up duty,so cover them. If you get shot, walk it off. And if you die, well Jesus rose after three days I expect you to do it before your enemy can load more bullets to make sure you're dead. Now spread out." I instruct as I secure my own parachute. We had arrived in Saudi Arabia late afternoon but had landed in the wrong town hence its only now that we were able to exactly locate Ahmed's location. After hours of tracking the guy we had finally caught a break and were headed over. Team hawk was already standing in position by the time Phoenix arrived at the meeting point.
"Commander..."
"Not now" Alvin dismissed as he walked away to approach the pilot who had announced that they where overhead the drop point. Christian also known as Riot had being trying to talk to the team from the time everyone landed at base. However he wasn't finding it easy. Each time he approached a snide remark or disgusted look was directed towards him. It didn't help that Alvin nor the others was forced to work with the guy. Christians' betrayal had created a huge dent in the unit. Generally they couldn't trust anyone but their fellow teammates but in this case knowing that he not only betrayed them but let out sensitive information hurt the most. He had already requested that he leave the unit but it had being denied by high up until the mission was executed. Hence team Phoenix was stuck with a traitor.

Valentino Valerius stood by Aurial's bedside as said man gushed over his Donna's brother like a hormonal lovestruck teenage girl. It was a sickening sight to behold as Aurial ranted with wild hands and googly eyes. Valentino had half the mind to walk away if it wasn't for the fact that he desperately needed a distraction from his aching heart. Besides,it was this or the twins heartbreaking sniffles as they slept. It had being a long day. From the rising of the sun until its setting Val couldn't think of a worser day. He wondered how army wives did it.
Its been a whole day since Alvin left and the impact was felt. Despite the men and women of the Mafia being cautious of Alvin in the early days, one could tell he grew on them. The kids were trying to be strong but kids are kids. And one could see how much influence their dad had on them because Not even the large 20ft glass fish pond that housed Ares' Jasper and other sea creatures Valentino had got them was enough to distract them from his absence.
"Don,godfather requests your presence in the boardroom." Clive spoke from the door as Valentino sighed heavily and got up.
A hand wrapped around his wrist and he turned to see Aurial looking at him with a sympathetic grin. "Cheer up,He isn't the shadow for nothing."
Right.
