The change for Darren was not an easy thing. The change from human to wolf was not at all easy, despite being bit by an Alpha. Of course, it might have helped to be surrounded by his new pack, but unfortunately, for both them and him, hunters managed to snatch him first.
Fortunately, the hunters were of an old code. They would only kill a werewolf who deserved such punishment, say, one who had killed a human. The hunters were surprisingly kind, considering their profession. They tended to Darren and helped him the best they could, especially when his fever broke out. Alas, they could not give him what he truly needed: family; a home. After his fever broke and he had made it through his first change, Darren was uncertain as to what would happen next. They would not let him go free, as he had originally anticipated, but they didn't torture him. For the most part, he was treated like a close family friend.
During most of the month, he lived in a guest room. Helping out with the front for their business and while attending college. When they had discovered his lack of a high school diploma, they enrolled Darren in classes so he could get his GPD. During the moon nights, he lived in the basement and was given a diet of meat to survive.
"Darren."
The wolf looked up as his name was called. His keeper's voice was strained. Walking into the main bar room, the smell hit him first. Another wolf was here. Another wolf who had a knife to the hunter's young son.
"Proof! We did not kill him, Kiran."
The wolf was familiar, a drifter from the north who had been in town a while ago. The man who had bitten him in the first place and abandoned him.
"No. You didn't." He grumbled almost thoughtfully. The boy was grudgingly released and he went straight to Darren. The child came to see the man as an uncle, now. Darren lifted him up, studying the boy closely for injuries. He growled lowly as he found a slash mark. Not deep, but there.
"I meant no harm to the child." Kiran commented softly, "I was more concerned with why they had not informed me of another wolf being born and what had become of it."
"My name is Darren and I am a person, not an it." Darren said darkly, taking a dislike towards the man. The hunters had never really told him much about other wolves and he got a nagging feeling he was missing something. Something confirmed by how the man was looking at him almost expectantly, waiting for something.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Kiran. I am the leader of the Pack which rules and roams these lands." Kiran declared broadly, obviously believing like that would mean something to Darren. He frowned as Darren didn't react the way he had expected. If anything Darren just looked more confused.
"Pack?" He asked, looking over at the hunter, who now had his gun out. "As in wolves?"
"He doesn't know?" Kiran said, frown deepening. "Even if his creator never taught him, you at least should have known better, to teach him the basic knowledge of being a werewolf!"
"I'm more concerned with his basic knowledge of being a human." The hunter grumbled. "And you're his creator. Figured you didn't want him, so why to bother teaching what he didn't need to know yet. I was going to tell him soon anyway, he's settled into his nature rather well."
"I - what...He's mine?"
Kiran was suddenly in his face. The child in his hands was plucked and gently placed on the floor. Before he could blink Kiran, spun him around to study the back of his neck. "Oh..."
Kiran just sounded shocked. His large hands holding Darren in place.
"Oh? That's all you have to say!?" The hunter growled, face turning pink in frustration.
"I don't remember biting him..." admitted Kiran looking a little sheepish. "I was a little..."
