"Here," Nozaki smiled softly as he reappeared with a cup of coffee and a sandwich. "Eat up. You look like you could do with the calories." He patted Robin's thigh. By this point, Leigh had pulled Robin's coat off him, leaving him in a shirt and black trousers. Kain was calmly sowing a hole in the coat like it was nothing. It meant that they could see how thin he had become.
Yes, well," Robin cut himself off not sure how to finish that statement. It looked at the plate and swallowed as he saw how the crusts were cut off. It was a childish thing, but it was how he liked it. The coffee also at a gingerbread cookie on the side. "Thank you, Nozaki," he smiled, trying to make it as warm as he could. The little things warmed his chest. They had been his friends for a reason after all and there was no point getting sulky about food with Nozaki of all people.
Robin began to quietly eat the sandwich, his taste buds rejoicing at the taste of something other than super noodles. Leigh and the other two continued to talk about something or other while he ate. Not excluding him from the conversation but letting him not join in too. Leigh was warm against his side. Leigh was still snarky and sarcastic, Kain still loud and bright while Nozaki was quiet and soft-spoken for the most. Whatever their roles had been, their personalities seemed the same.
He swallowed and for a moment felt about to cry again. Only the fact that Leigh was hugging him was enough to hold them back. Having the arm protectively draped over his shoulder was far more reassuring than it had any right to be.
What was going on here? Todd had kissed Leigh on the lips, that gesture was one that was normal for them. Had Leigh cheated with Todd or was something else going on? Robin was fast worrying that he had been the other woman in the situation. Only, Leigh wasn't showing any signs that what had happened was enough to stop him caring about Robin, if that tickle fight was anything to go by. Still, Robin's chest ached.
"I don't suppose any of you would give me any clues as to why you have reappeared?" he dared to ask once he had finished his sandwich and the conversation had flowed to a natural halt. All three men froze, looking at each other as if debating what to say.
"It's complicated," Nozaki offered, rubbing the back of his neck. "You know us very well, and the boss didn't like that."
"But we like you and don't want something unfortunate to happen to you," Kain cut in, his tone just a little too cheerful. "You haven't been able to get back on your feet successfully so we're trying to use another means."
"I was supposed to?" Robin took a deep sip and finished off the lack of the coffee.
Leigh poked his side and gave him a look. "Yes," all three men said in unison.
Robin curled on himself, pressing onto Leigh, who tugged him into a tight hug on his chest. Robin twisted to sit comfortably, letting Leigh hold him. The other two glared at anyone who looked at him. Robin let Leigh hold him, his head under the man's chin. He closed his eyes and listened to Leigh's steady heartbeat. He drifted, vaguely aware as Kain put Robin's coat over him like a blanket.
He wasn't sure how long he had been drifting when a hand landed on his shoulder and shook lightly. Todd was standing with a fond smile on his face. "Comfortable?" he teased.
