"So...are you going to tell me what was all that about?"Jaime asked as they walk towards their front door.
"Nope." Ashlyn shook her head.
"Awww, come on! I want to know why were Levi and Max blushing." Jaime pouted. "It was totally epic!"
"What for?" Ashlyn asked. Jaime just shrugged. "Its...uh...best if you don't know." She felt her own cheeks burning.
"Seems to me that Levi is attracted to you." He smiled mischievously.
Ashlyn choked and tripped on her own feet. "What?! N-no he isn't."
They reached their front porch but Jaime blocked the front door and crossed his arms. "Do you like him?" He asked, studying her.
"Move away from the door, Jaime."
"Answer me then."
"No, I won't."
"Yes, you will."
"Nope."
"Fine, we can stay here all night if you want." Jaime grinned.
"Alright!" Ashlyn sighed. "I d-don't like Levi."
"Why don't you? I mean most girls would kill for his attention." He said matter of factly.
"Well maybe I'm not like most girls. I don't just go for looks and popularity. What they have in here matters too." Ashlyn pointed to her heart.
"Wow, you're so deep that I could see your-"
"Shut up!"
"Fine." Jaime opened the front door and both of them entered.
Alan and Ashlyn's mum were sitting on the sofa, flipping through magazines. "Oh great! You kids are home!" Laura chirped. "Come here and look at this!"
Ashlyn and Jaime exchanged glances warily before approaching their parent. "What is it mum?" Ashlyn asked.
"Look at this dress! Isn't it beautiful?" Laura pointed to a page on the magazine. It was a picture of a model wearing a white knee length floral gown.
"Errmm...yeah it is. But shouldn't you be wearing a full length gown on your wedding?" Ashlyn's forehead furrowed.
"Yes I would." Laura nodded. "But this dress isn't for me. It's for you."
"What?!" Ashlyn's jaw dropped. "Why must I wear that?" Her face contorted in horror.
"Because you'll be my maid of honour of course!" Laura said sheepishly.
Ashlyn groaned. "Can't I just wear jeans instead?"
Laura's nose flared. "Don't be silly! You will not, under no circumstances, be wearing jeans on my wedding day!"
"But Mum-"
"No buts Angel Ashlyn Miller." Laura said firmly.
Ashlyn knew better than to keep arguing. Once her mum uses her full name, it's final. Beside her, she could hear Jaime snickered. Ashlyn glared at him, making Jaime laugh even louder.
"And why are you laughing, son?" Alan asked.
Jaime stopped immediately, erasing every humour he had on his face a moment ago. "No reason." He shrugged.
Alan narrowed his eyes but didn't probe any further. "I hope you're okay with being the best man, Jaime."
"No problem! As long as I don't have to wear a dress." Jaime flashed Ashlyn a wide smirk. "Besides, I look damn good in a tux."
Ashlyn faked a gagging noise and it was Jaime's turn to glare at her. Laura and Alan suddenly burst out laughing, seeing their kid's childish behaviour. Ashlyn must admit that the thought of having a new family still irks her but the smile on her mum's face at the very moment wiped out all her worries.
