"Aww Reiner look at that cute little dog!" I pointed to a little coal-colored puppy in the window of a shop. He raised an eyebrow and shifted his eyes to look into the window. I could see his eyes go softer, but his face stayed with the same strong expression.

"Do you want it?" He inquired with a tiny smile. I felt my face heat up and I pulled him down to my level by his Marleyan tie and gave him a quick kiss. He was still in his military uniform from a meeting a few hours earlier.

Fifteen minutes later, I had the same coal-colored puppy in my arms, he squirmed and yipped. I saw Reiner out of the corner of my eye admiring the puppy, which I had named Bert. Reiner wrapped a strong arm around my shoulder and guided me into a jewelry shop with glass display cases. I raised my eyebrows and looked at Reiner with a confused look.

"I'm just picking something up." He softly explained before giving Bert a pat on the head and walking towards the counter. I stood there watching him make a strange exchange with the person working at the front counter. The person handed Reiner a little package. Was he seriously doing a drug deal in a jewelry store?

When he walked back up to me, I said nothing as he took my hand into his and led me down the streets of Marley. The sun was setting over the horizon in the distance, and the boats proudly rested in the glistening water. The bright orange sun sinking over the water marked the end of another peaceful day.

"Let's sit over here baby." Reiner said sweetly. I smiled and happily followed him. He led me to the docks and sat on the edge, his legs dangling over the edge. I did the same, but instead I sat cross-legged so Bert could sit on my lap. He did just that, curling up and quickly falling asleep on my legs.

"So, uh, what's in the package Reiner?" I questioned with my head slightly cocked. He chuckled and pulled it out of his jacket pocket. It was a rectangular red velvet case, it almost looked like something you'd hold necklaces in...

"We've been together...3 months now right? I just wanted to get you a little something. Normally, relationships with me don't last longer than a week. But with you, I feel different. You make me feel appreciated, so I wanted to do the same for you." Reiner held the little case to me and opened it elegantly. Inside, a glimmering silver chain rested. He pulled another smaller box out of his other pocket and opened that one as well.

"The charm didn't come with the necklace, so I had to buy it separately." He told me and lifted both items out of the box. He carefully slid the silver and ruby heart chain onto the necklace and clipped it behind my neck. I gently took the charm in between my thumb and index finger and smiled in thankfulness.

"Reiner, it's so beautiful!" I exclaimed and slowly glided my thumb over it. He lovingly wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close. I let the pendant hit my chest and turned to him.

But my lap felt a lot lighter for some reason. I looked down to see...Bert was gone!! Frantically, I turned to the water when I heard loud splashing. Sure enough, the little pup was in the water, going crazy trying to keep his head above water.

"Bert!!" I shouted, but it's not like it would do anything. Wrong, it fired up Reiner's warrior side. Swiftly, he peeled his jacket off and pulled his tie from his neck. With a deep breath, he jumped and dove into the water head-first.

"Reiner!" I yelled after him, then waited in anticipation to see if he would come out. After a minute or two of worrying, his head and neck popped out above the water. He gasped for breath, but nonetheless, he swam over to the ladder on the side of the docks. I hurriedly ran over and helped him out of the water. His uniform was soaking wet, but in his arms, he held a wet struggling Bert. I took the puppy from his arms with one hand and wrapped my other arm around his shoulders.

"That was dangerous as hell Reiner." I whispered with a smile. He snickered and rubbed Bert's back.

"I'd never let a puppy drown." He replied before leaning down to plant a light kiss on my lips. Bert tried to lick his face, but Reiner quickly pulled away and smirked down at him. "And you...don't ever pull a stunt like that again." He used a hand to roughly rub Bert's head before we walked through the cheering crowd back to our apartment.
