A little later the huntress joined Dean in the library. He had sat down at the laptop with a glass of whiskey and was still trying to find something about the case. Completely absorbed, he didn't notice Josie. Only when she wrapped one arm around his neck and presented an extra large piece of pie with the other.
"I think you were good enough," she whispered wickedly in his ear.
"Are you trying to seduce me right now? If so, it works! ", He joked and closed the laptop," I don't know which tidbit to grab first "
"Dean," she reprimanded him with a sigh and lightly punched his shoulder.
He scooped the cherry pie with relish. Meanwhile Josie sat down next to him and scanned his notes, she was interested in what he thought was important in a case.
"Do you want to join us next time?" He asked with his mouth full.
"Yes, definitely," she confessed happily, "I mean, I like to be here and I'm happy if I can do something for you, but I've got used to the hard life out there and don't want to be a housewife anymore, who sits at home all day and wait until the man or the men come home. I've had enough of this life"
"Am I sensing a new beginning?"
"Not quite. But I try to leave the unnecessary things behind me "
"You have to make a conscious decision. Just distracting yourself with work doesn't help in the long run", he advised her.
"Wow, hearing that from you"
"As you can see, I know what I'm talking about, but you can at least be smarter about it than I am", he smiled and Josie had the feeling that this calm and thoughtful guy was the real Dean, behind the cheeky facade.
"I'll try," she promised and grabbed his hand with the fork, which he wanted to bring to his mouth.
She gently stroked the knuckles, which were always scratched up. Confused by the comforting gesture, the hunter didn't know what to do. But she in turn did and leaned over kissing him on the cheek.
"What was that for?" He asked softly.
"Just to say thank you," she replied warmly, standing up to leave.
"By the way, the pie is incredibly delicious," he praised and watched her leave, while he was a little bit overwhelmed.
He thought of her words the other day and shook his head to get rid of the thought that he might have met this one special woman after all. Burried in thought, he poked around in his cake and wondered if he would even be able to love someone so much that he would spend his whole life with that person. He quickly banished all thoughts from his mind and wandered with his cake plate into his room, where he sank into an unusually peaceful sleep with a full stomach.
