The next case the hunters tackled, Sam and Dean wanted to handle alone again. Especially since apparently it was just a shapeshifter, they expected it wouldn't take them long anyway. Secretly, Josie thought they might want to hunt alone, since she would probably just slow them down. But really, the men just wanted to be among themselves again. Not that they minded the company of the brunette, but occasionally they needed their men's night out.
However, things turned out differently than expected and the case turned out to be a bit more complicated. While Sam and Dean were still investigating as Feds, Dean called Josie for help. He knew exactly how they were going to get the shapeshifter, but they needed the huntress to do it.
It took a few hours for Josie to catch up with them in her Charger, but as soon as she arrived at the small motel, Sam told her about the culprit.
"We're going to assume it's a guy who breaks up couples first, then turns into the lover and goes after the girlfriend", Sam began.
"That's why there's rarely a missing person report, because nobody's missing, as it were. But the last few times he got negligent. So far he's killed and buried all the men, but the last one he just knocked down and locked in the sewers, from where the victim escaped", Dean added.
"Hmm, I can already guess where this is going", Josie muttered, rolling her eyes, "So who's my lover this time?"
"Dean", it came out of Sam's mouth like a bullet, "It worked just great last time!"
They both looked at him, slightly puzzled, while Sam tried to behave normally. He knew that Dean was happy to take on this role, even if he didn't want to admit it.
"Alright, so how do we lure this bastard into a trap?", Josie wanted to know.
"There is a bar where he prefers to choose his victims", noted Sam, who had already looked around town.
The huntress gulped hard. The more the brothers talked about the case, the more it sounded like the murder of her fiancé Andy. Dean saw her sorrow, however, he said nothing about it.
"We'll go to the bar and have a drink, Sammy will stay in the background and keep an eye on everything. I'll go to the bathroom in between, worst case scenario he kills me and grabs you, but that's what Sam is for."
Wordlessly Josie nodded and trudged sadly into the bathroom. She couldn't think about Andy now, even though she wondered if there might be a connection. She washed her face with ice-cold water and put makeup on her tired eyes. The bright red lipstick immediately drew Dean's attention to her lips. Unconsciously, he licked his own and imagined kissing her until the lipstick was completely gone.
"Save your lustful looks for later", she teased him.
Caught, he looked to the floor, but couldn't help a slight grin. Together they went into the bar and sat down at a table, while Sam took a seat right at the bar and kept an eye on the two of them.
But not only them, but also on what was happening around them. It wasn't too long before he noticed someone also watching the couple. Josie marveled at how well Dean got into character. Gently, he held her hand and it seemed like the most normal thing in the world that they were sitting in a bar and on a date.
"Are you actually hungry?", he inquired as the waitress walked past their table with a burger.
"No, I'm fine", she replied, delicately stroking the veins that appeared on the back of his hand.
Enraptured, he smiled and lifted her hand to his lips. The stranger, meanwhile, scrutinized Dean's movements, while Josie tried not to look too overwhelmed.
"Well then, but I'll order something, because that looked damn delicious", the hunter enthused, gesturing to the waitress.
When she finally brought the burger and fries a little later, Josie looked wistfully at the food. With a wide grin, Dean pushed the portion of fries toward her.
"Baby, I know the drill. You women are a mystery to me sometimes, but this much I know, when it comes to food you always want some", he laughed and Josie smiled shyly.
"Thank you", she purred blushed, and stuffed her mouth with fries.
She liked this Dean and could well imagine women falling for him by the dozen. In moments like these, she didn't exclude herself, which Dean seemed to visibly enjoy. They almost forgot that this wasn't a real date, it wasn't until Sam walked past them to the bathroom that they remembered they had a case.
"I'll be right back", Dean said, kissing Josie briefly on the top of her head and following his brother.
Smiling softly, Josie watched him go for a moment before turning her attention to the cocktail menu. A third man also got up to make his way to the restrooms. Sam was correct in his guess. The presumed shapeshifter stood next to Dean at the urinal and waited until Sam left the room, but he waited until Dean was already washing his hands.
The hunter was getting ready for a fight, while Sam was supposed to give a sign to the huntress. But he did not want to leave his brother completely alone and listened at the door. Josie saw from her table how the younger Winchester was waiting. Briefly their eyes met and she understood what was going on. Ready to let the trap snap shut, she sat up straight and closed her eyes.
