After quite a bit, they found a small bar that wasn't too crowded. Everyone present was busy with themselves and Dean relaxed, no longer feeling that anyone or anything was following him. No one even looked as Josie pranced around him while he leaned against the bar counter.
"If you don't sit your ass down, your wound is going to start bleeding," he warned her, pushing her down onto one of the bar stools.
"I just want to make you laugh and have fun for once," she said, reaching into the bowl of peanuts sitting on the counter.
"I am having fun," Dean replied honestly, nudging the tip of Josie's nose, "Unless by 'fun' you mean something else"
"In your dreams," she grinned, quickly stuffing a handful of peanuts into her mouth.
But not even her full mouth and puffed cheeks could hide her blushing. The peanuts only stopped her from saying something stupid like how the blonde wasn't the only one thinking he had a great ass.
"Fo you wanf fome?" she offered mumbling, trying to keep the crumbs in her mouth.
"No thanks, just eat your peanuts," Dean refused with a laugh, unable to hide his delighted look.
She didn't need to drag him to a bar or do anything. Her sweet nature was enough to cheer him up. However, it had the side effect of making his heart beat faster every time.
While the two hunters were fooling around, a dark-haired man was watching them, from across the bar. Neither Josie nor Dean knew him, but he knew very well who Dean was, after all, he had saved his life, even if the Winchester could hardly remember it. He sipped his drink with pleasure and felt relief inside him. It pleased him to see Dean so happy, because at the time he was not sure if the hunter would live on. As long as Dean had enough reason to sacrifice himself for the cause he would do it without blinking. At least it now seemed like he would think before ending it.
When Josie disappeared briefly to the restroom, the silent observer took the opportunity to reveal his identity.
"Hello Dean," he greeted the hunter, who seemed surprised.
"Um hello?" replied Dean skeptically, "Do we know each other?"
"Yes, I'm Castiel, Angel of the Lord, you probably don't remember me," the celestial being enlightened him.
"Wait, then you saved me, didn't you?" combined Dean and Castiel nodded, "Then what are you doing here? Am I in danger?"
"No," the dark-haired one reassured the hunter, "I was just checking up on you. I'm happy for you that you have a human bond with this woman"
"Human bond? What? You mean that I'm with her?", Dean said irritated and the angel nodded again, "Well, it's, well, let's just say it's complicated."
"I understand that, people are very complicated" Cas noted knowingly.
"Uh yeah, well good buddy, nice to meet you" the Winchester muttered, trying to get rid of Castiel, but apparently the Angel of the Lord didn't take the hint.
"Me too Dean," he replied, looking him fixedly in the eye.
"No offense, but my 'human bond' is about to return and it would be good if I didn't have to explain to her that angels exist"
"Oh, of course," Cas relented, ducking back into his corner.
"Dean smell, the soap smells like apples," Josie slurred, excitedly sticking her hands in his face.
"The tequila seems to be working," Dean laughed as Josie sniffed her fingers excitedly.
Josie felt light-headed and was only too happy to sit down on the bar stool. Everything began to spin slightly around her.
"Are you okay?" worried Dean, "You didn't drink that much, did you?"
On his own, the bartender set out a glass of water for the pale woman, which she drank dutifully. Supporting her, Dean put an arm around her back to prevent her from still falling off the stool, noticing that her shirt was slightly damp and her body heated.
"Should we go home?" the hunter inquired anxiously.
"No I still want to dance," she mumbled, sliding awkwardly off the stool, "Come dance with me."
Dean's eyes turned to Castiel, searching for help, the angel eyed Josie from a distance.
The angel sensed something was wrong with Josie, it was definitely not a high she was having. The alcohol was just causing something, but Cas would have to get closer for that. Hastily, Dean pressed a few bills into the bartender's hand and led the brunette out of the bar. Quietly, the angel followed them.
"Andy let go of me, I don't want to go yet," she grumbled, fighting Dean off.
"I'm not Andy, my name is Dean!" he explained, looking her in the eyes while holding her by both shoulders.
She tried to struggle and seemed slightly absent minded. Castiel approached the two of them and was about to extend his hand to her when she lost her footing and slipped out of Dean's hands. Like a wet sack, she fell to the floor before the Winchester could have caught her. Alarmed, he knelt beside her and looked up at Castiel.
"Do something, you've got angelic powers," he wheeled on the blue-eyed one.
Carefully, he put his fingers to her forehead. Helplessly, Dean watched, wondering what was going on.
"Her wound has become infected and caused blood poisoning," the angel answered the unspoken question, "I'll lower the fever and heal the wound, after that she should feel better soon."
"Thank you," Dean purred in relief as Josie's eyes fluttered open.
But even before the brunette came to consciousness, the angel was gone. Dumbfounded, Dean looked around, but quickly turned his attention to Josie.
"What happened?" she wanted to know, shimmying up to Dean.
"You had sepsis," he told her, "An angel healed you."
She believed the first part, but when he mentioned the angel she hit him in a huff.
"Stop messing with me!" she grumbled, forgoing his help.
"It's the truth, his name was Castiel and he was wearing a trench coat".
"Well if there are demons why shouldn't there be angels" she sighed, patting the dirt off her pants.
"Shall we go home?" asked Dean "I can tell you the whole story when I get home".
Silently she nodded and lowered her eyes to the floor.
