As soon as Josie had left the store, Dean pulled out a gun. Without warning, he shot the demon in both feet, causing him to twist his ankle and hanging in his handcuffs.
"Okay buddy, I'll ask again. What kind of blade is that?", Dean probed calmly and circled the demon.
"I don't know."
"Oh no? That sounded like you knew, and just didn't want to tell me."
"Fuck you," the man growled, trying to stand up despite the pain.
"No I'm sorry, no need," Dean laughed sneering, "But you know, I can shoot again, these bullets are causing you pain, aren't they?"
The prisoner didn't reply, but just looked at Dean in a rage. Once free, he would finish off the Winchester without hesitation. Another shot rang out, this time hitting the shoulder. The demon cried out as pain shot through him.
"I warned you. If you finally tell me what I want to know, I might do you a favor and kill you," Dean said, almost sounding as if he were having fun watching the guy suffer in front of him.
"Go to hell," the demon croaked.
"I've been there, didn't suit me well."
Dean put the gun away and instead took the hip flask with what was left of the holy water he had.
"Come on, now open your mouth", Dean demanded and grabbed his opponent's jaw, "Either the words I want to hear come out, or you can taste the holy water"
The demon gritted his teeth suspiciously and didn't even think about telling him the secret. There was a hiss as a drop hit the monster's lips.
"Dean? What are you doing?", Josie asked worriedly as she stepped through the door.
She was aware that they had to force the demon to talk, but the blood on the floor shocked her more than she expected. Above all, she hadn't expected that Dean would want to get rid of her so that he could torture the guy alone. Dean paused for a moment, but then he let go of the demon.
"He won't tell us," the green-eyed man grumbled, looking at Josie.
"Then kill him, why are we still keeping him here?", she spoke softly and reached for a long silver blade.
She carefully approached the demon, who looked up in agony. With a jerk she thrust the angel's blade between the man's ribs and after the golden-yellow flickering died down, she pulled out the angel's knife and left the supermarket without a word.
It hit Dean hard that she didn't look at him as she walked past him. Torturing a demon for information was nothing special to him, considering he'd done far more gruesome things than this. But it was all foreign to Josie, there was still so much innocence and goodness in her. Even if he understood that it must have been a shock for her to see him doing it, that was what he had to do.
He walked behind her in silence, leaving some space between them. Suddenly she stopped abruptly and turned around. He almost ran into her because he was completely lost in thought.
"You know what shocked me the most?", she asked bluntly, "Not that you tortured the demon but that you enjoyed it"
He blinked in surprise, but he couldn't deny it. It felt good to have power over this demon and feast on its pain.
"It's the mark, isn't it?", Josie added worried, "It's starting to change you"
Dean raised his arm slightly and felt the hot throbbing that emanated from the symbol.
"We need to get this over with quickly and then I need to get rid of this thing fast!" Dean remarked.
It scared him even more now what it could do to him. He wonders what if he started torturing for no reason, or if his victims were humans. Or Josie.
"Is everything okay Dean?" She worried because of his confused look.
"Yes. Yeah, it's alright, let's find Cliff and Rudy", he dodged and looked past her.
She skeptically agreed and now walked beside him. She kept glancing at him. Dean could tell she was worried, but he preferred to pretend he was fine. She was counting on him and he didn't want to disappoint her.
Just before the two gradually ran out of strength, Sam and Tracy came to relieve them. The fights among the demons increased and the hunters soon had to come up with something new, because they could not fight anymore. When the chance allowed them, they asked for Cain's weapon, but all they learned was that it had to be an ancient piece of bone. Tired, Josie and Dean dragged themselves into the apartment after their replacement.
"We found Abaddon," Cliff shared as Dean entered the living room, "She's in Lebanon, apparently she's looking for something there."
"The bunker," Josie combined and looked at Dean worried.
The base of the Men of Letters had become Josie's home and now it was in danger of being destroyed. A moment ago she was tired, but now she was wide awake and ready to defend her home.
"Go home, we can do this without you, or not, we'll see! I'll help Tracy, take Sam with you", Cliff instructed the two.
Without hesitation, both packed their things and picked up Sam.
"What are the knights doing in the bunker?" Josie asked from the back seat while Sam drove.
"Possibly us, maybe they also expect Crowley to hide there," Sam answered and could well imagine that the king of hell was in the bunker, where nobody could find him so quickly.
"If they enter the bunker they will destroy everything! All the records that had been collected over the centuries," Josie worried.
