The devil's trap lost effectiveness the more human Dean became, and if she wasn't careful he could break free and kill her, because he was still enough of a demon to do so.

"Here, drink this," she ordered, holding the glass of water she had brought to his lips.

Skeptically the green eyes looked up, he didn't know if he should trust her, it could be holy water after all to test if he was still a demon. Hesitantly he put his head back and Josie tipped the glass slightly. Relieved that it was really just water, he swallowed it greedily. He hadn't had anything to drink in hours and was glad to finally be rid of the dry throat. One less pain, after all.

"Thank you," he breathed contentedly when the glass was empty.

The huntress just nodded in acknowledgement and moved back toward the door. But Dean started to speak before she could leave.

"I'm sorry, Josie."

Abruptly the woman stopped and looked over her shoulder at the tied up man, however she said nothing.

"I don't just mean what I said earlier, I meant everything. It... it hurts to see you and Sam like this, I didn't want you to have to go through this."

"Neither did we," she replied, closing the door behind her.

It was too much for her to hear, whether it was a game from the demon or actually old Dean saying it. Her legs no longer supported her and she slid down the wall, whimpering.

"Josie? Are you all right?" inquired Sam, who had been waiting for her.

"I can't take it anymore," she sobbed, her eyes filling with tears, "I thought when he was himself again it would get easier, but seeing him suffer breaks my heart."

Compassionately, he sat down next to her on the floor and waited with her for the next lesson.

"I'll do it" Sam determined when the time came and got up from the floor.

It wasn't easy for him either, but he took comfort in the fact that it was gradually his brother who was sitting in front of him.

"I guess it'll be over in an hour," Dean croaked, and for a moment the black eyes flickered uncontrollably.

"No Dean, in an hour, it's only going to start!", Sam warned his brother coolly.
