Josie regretted going with Dean at that moment. The way Cain appeared, she imagined the ruler of Hell, not as frail as Crowley. Undeterred, Cain stepped over a corpse peeking out from under the rubble.

"They told me you wanted to talk to me? Go ahead, speak," the gray-haired one demanded.

"You need to tell your kind to stop this war, this is between yours and Crowley's people. We humans have nothing to do with it. This used to be the home of thousands of people and you destroyed it," the Winchester brought out boldly.

"Oh, do I have to? And why would I order 'my kind' to do that?"

"Dean, woe it me!", threatened Josie quietly behind his back.

"I can offer you Crowley's throne, he trusts us and thinks we'd fight alongside him," Dean offered and Josie marveled.

She had expected many things, but not for Dean to stab someone in the back to whom he had given his word.

"My boy," Cain laughed dismissively, "If I had wanted the crown I would have taken it long ago, it was only a matter of time before another knight reached for the power. I thought I had got them all, but I forgot my best horse in the stable."

"You don't want to rule hell at all?", spoke up Josie.

"No dear, I've spent too many years down there, I enjoy it up here in the fresh air

"No dear, I've spent too many years down there, I enjoy it up here in the fresh air. And to be honest, it's never been this peaceful, do you hear that? No? Neither have I. This silence is wonderful."

Dean ran out of arguments at that moment, he hadn't expected Cain to stay completely out of the war. And since he wanted nothing to do with Hell, he didn't need to try and get him on one side.

"Fine, so you don't want to be the commander-in-chief, but then tell us how to kill Abaddon and her people," Dean demanded confidently.

"Then I would tell you how to kill me," Cain remarked with a laugh, "I don't know why I should do that"

"I know you're not a crossroads demon, but I'll offer you a deal", the hunter began, his expression turning icy cold.

"Dean!", admonished Josie again, well aware of what he was about to do.

"I'm listening," came interestedly from Cain.

"I don't know what currency you trade souls among yourselves in, but mine is worth a hell of a lot. You can have it."

"DEAN!", scolded Josie, pushing herself in front of him

"DEAN!", scolded Josie, pushing herself in front of him.

Angrily, she nudged him. Sam would never forgive her for not stopping Dean. With watery eyes, she looked up at him, but Dean just stared past her, into Cain's eyes.

"Seems to me your girl objects to you selling out," the demon sneered, taking a few more steps toward the two hunters.

With each step Cain took closer, Dean pressed the brunette more against him. Protective of what the knight might be up to. Slowly, he raised a hand and flicked it. Dean felt Josie's body grow heavy and hang limply in his arms.

"What did you son of a bitch do?", roared Dean, barely able to hold her upright, forcing him to put her on the ground.

"Don't worry, she's just fast asleep, but I had a feeling she'd interfere with our negotiation," Cain reassured him with a smile as he looked at Josie, "Really a pretty girl"

"She's  not available as an option!" growled Dean, rising from his crouch.

"I wouldn't know what to do with a slayer anyway," the demon rebuffed aversely, "Now let's get down to the deal instead. Your soul in exchange for the weapon that kills a knight of hell".

Cain held out his hand ready to accept the deal. Uncertain, Dean looked at the hand and after a moment's hesitation, handed him his. Either way he would be tortured in hell and be the chew toy for all he sent to hell. He'd rather be the favorite toy for just one.

"Pleased to do business with you," Cain grinned from behind his mustache, squeezing Dean's hand so tightly that he couldn't let go.

Dean hissed painfully as he felt a throbbing pain. Surprised, he looked down at his arms and felt the tingling in his veins as if hundreds of tiny lightning bolts were crawling through until the pain gathered and Cain let go of his hand.

"Thank you, Dean, after more than six thousand years I am finally free," the demon thanked him delightedly and let Josie wake up.

Meanwhile, the hunter rolled up his sleeve in panic and discovered the blood-red mark on his arm.

"The mark will lead you to a blade, with which you can kill her," Cain informed him and strode away.

Dazed, Josie blinked and just made out the outline of the demon before it disappeared completely.

"What happened?", she muttered and struggled to her feet.

Suddenly she remembered that Dean had sold his soul to the cruelest demon that ever existed.

"Dean!", she nagged at him, grabbing his wrist, "what the hell is this?"

"My end," Dean said and gulped, while looking Josie in the eye with equal concern.

"How could you do that?", she screamed at him and shoved him again full of rage, "What do you think Sam will say about you getting yourself into this crap again? Did you even think about us once while you were doing that?"
