Gist: Jay sneaks out of Hailey's apartment, leaving her to sleep peacefully. The next time they see each other is at work later in the morning.

Jay slowly awoke from his deep slumber, grunting when he went to roll over and was pulled back to his original position; Hailey's head weighing his arm down. He smiled happily seeing Hailey sleep so peacefully in his arm, and remembering the fantastic night they both shared. That evening was beyond unbelievable for them both, it finally happened after years of falling for each other- but being too scared to make a move. It was just perfect, and so was the way Hailey looked as she slept. Her wavy blond hair was scattered out behind her head, as she wore a little pout where her face was squished together from laying on Jay's arm. It was adorable. "Beautiful" he thought to himself, boggled to how he managed to wake up next to Hailey. Hailey, being the woman who happened to be the most amazing and gorgeous woman that he'd ever layed eyes on.
Jay lay there a few more minutes, enjoying holding Hailey in his arms and watching her as she sleeped contentally. Unfortunately, he caught a glance of the alarm on the table next to him and the time it was, required him to go back to his apartment and get changed for work. He gently kissed Hailey on the head, before cautiously shuffling out of Hailey's bed and throwing back on his clothes. "See you, Hails" Jay smiled, leaving Hailey to be in her room.

Half an hour later, the bedroom alarm blared through the bedroom and waked up Hailey, who startled with the shock of the noise awakening her from her deep sleep. A giggle escaped her sleepy body, as the memories of the previous evening sprung to the front of her mind. The giggles soon stopped, when she rolled over to see her bed empty and all of Jay's clothes missing from her floor. She definitely didn't imagen that evening, so her heart sank to know Jay up and left without a word. Her only thought was "Did he end up regretting it after all?"

Sighing, she threw the covers off her and got dressed into some fresh clothes, shaking herself in a bid to get herself together. Heading into the kitchen to pour herself a quick coffee, she checked her messages to see if Jay had sent her one....but he hadn't. There wasn't a message insight from Jay. "I thought you were different, Jay" Hailey breathed out, throwing her phone onto the counter top. She felt like an idiot. She thought Jay was different to all the other guys, she fell for him, slept with him, then was left by him the next morning. The same old story again. "I hate men" Hailey hissed, finishing off her coffee and throwing on her coat and shoes before heading off to work.

All morning, Hailey had been doing her best to avoid Jay as much as possible. He was confused to say the least. After the evening they spent together, he was certain that they were singing off the same himn sheet. Apparently not though. Well, they were, but the other just didn't know it. The tension hadn't been hidden well at all, because the rest of the unit had been gossiping amongst each other about the tension between the two partners. It was more out of concern then anything. Hailey and Jay were the two strongest partners and friends going, they rarely fought and stayed mad at each other- so it was unusual for the group to see it.

"HAILEY, JAY!" Voight barked from his office, wanting to understand what the issue was between his only detectives. If they weren't on the same page, then his entire unit was at threat out in the field. Glaring across to each other, they rose from their desk chairs and headed into their boss' office; not without being thrown stares from their team mates. "Sarge" Hailey and Jay both greeted formally, Jay closing the door for privacy. "Care to explain what's gotten into you two?" Voight asked, jumping straight to the point. "Nothing, we're fine" Hailey answered, crossing her arms across her chest stubbornly. "Yeh, we're okay" Jay agreed, fully aware that Voight believed non of their crap. "Clearly not. You both look like you've just been wacked with a wet fish across your faces, and are refusing to talk to each other" Voight poked, pointing to both cops individually.
The issues really wasn't one that they cared to disclose with their Sargent, their father-figure. It would end badly and, quite frankly, it embarrassing to do so. "We'll sort it out. I promise" Jay said, looking to Hailey for agreement. "Yeh, we'll sort it out" Hailey muttered. "Okay. You've got five minutes to sort whatever this is out in the breakroom. Go" Voight ordered, not messing around with the situation at all.

In the breakroom, Jay sat across from Hailey at the table- desperate to know what was wrong with Hailey. What he'd done to upset Hailey so much. She refused to speak though, but happily gifted Jay many death glares. "Alright, I'm done waiting for you to talk. What the hell have I done to make you this pissed off? I thought after last night...I thought we were more than good. Especially when we wanted it to be more than just a one-time thing" Jay calmly snapped, losing his mind with being kept in the miserable dark. "You're just like every other guy, Jay. I thought you were different, but apparently you're not!" Hailey shouted, hurting Jay with her words. He knew Hailey's past with guys, it was ugly and he never wanted her to think of him as a mean and 'typical' guy. "What are you on about, Hailey?" Jay knitted his brows together, now beyond baffled with Hailey's accusations. "You left. You got me all ruffled up, got into my bed, told lies about how you felt about me, got pleasure, then left as soon as I fell asleep. Just typical" Hailey's lip quivered, her emotions becoming too much almost. She was used to being hurt by guys, so used that it almost became a numbing feeling; but when it was Jay that hurt her, it made it more painful than she could ever imagen.

"Oh my God, Hailey. I can't believe you think I'd do that. I left because I had to go home and get changed. I'd never lie about how I felt towards you, or make any complement up. What I said last night was more than true. I really didn't want to leave you, it felt amazing having you sleep in my arms. You've got no idea how hard it was to drag myself away from you" Jay ranted, making it VERY clear that he didn't leave Hailey to be mean or cruel; but infact he didn't want to leave her at all. Tears fell from Hailey's eyes and trickled down her face, she was ashamed of being so petty. Her past clouded her judgment and her mind insisted that Jay was a screw-up like the others. When, in fact, he was the polar opposite. He was gentle, caring, loving, and truly amazing- something that terrified the life out of the blond detective. "Hey, look at me" Jay moved chairs to one right next to Hailey, lifting her fallen head up with his finger. "You mean the world to me, Hailey. I couldn't ever imagen hurting you. And that fact I've done this to you, hurts alot. Upsetting you is the one thing I promised myself from day one to never do" Jay wiped Hailey's tears away. He even found her stunning when she was crying and vulnerable, that's how much he had fallen for her. "I'm sorry. You're amazing, I don't know why I thought you were like everyone else. I know you're not...I...I don't know. I'm really sorry, Jay. You don't deserve it" Hailey's apology was more than whole-hearted. She ment it with every fiber that made her body, she hated herself for treating Jay the way she had. "I get it. It's okay. We're good if you want us to be good. I'm not going anywhere. For the reasons I said last night, and because I'm not every other guy" Jay understood fully, he had his fair share of messed-up relationships in his time. "I want us to be good, more than anything" Hailey nodded, placing her hand over a Jay's which layed on her cheek. Everyone was staring, they didn't care though. Both of them too wrapped up with each other to even bother about what everyone outside was thinking. "Always" Jay smiled, pressing their fourheads together. "Always" Hailey repeated for emphasis.
