Gist: Instead of Jay not being able to get the words out he wanted to, in 6x22, to Hailey. Jay manages to get his words out.

Completely numb, Jay plodded through the middle isle of the desks and his team members, and headed into the breakroom. As he walked past Hailey, she picked up that her partner wasn't okay; so she followed after him into the breakroom.
"Hey, what's going on?" Hailey asked, leaning against the counter next to Jay. "I have no idea" Jay answered, his voice barely there. "Voight just left..and...and said something about me running the unit" Jay continued, still processing what Voight dropped on him. Hailey didn't know what to say either, she just stood in silence and turned her body to face Jay better. "We lost" Jay finished, his voice strained and thick with emotion. Hailey and Jay looked at each other, their eyes saying what their voices couldn't. It was clear to Hailey, that Jay was terrified of what was to come in the future; because the way he looked so vulnerably at her. "Kelton knows who he his. His time for reckoning is coming" Hailey finally said, switching her focus to the floor underneath her. Jay kept his eyes on Hailey the whole time, unable to believe his partners words fully. "Not in time for the unit" Jay said, pausing to decided wether he should say the words that he was about to say. "For us" Jay said, just going with it- what was their to lose? He thought.

Hailey couldn't say anything to that, uncharted territory would be entered and then wasn't the time nor place. "We've only been partners a couple years. You'll forget about me just fine" Those words broke Hailey, she didn't want Jay to forget about her; she new she definitely wouldn't forget about him. "Hailey...pfff" Jay scoffed- he wouldn't ever forget about his partner. She was his safe place, his world, his life saver. No way could he ever forget her. "How could I? Your the best partner I've ever had" Jay said, interrupting their silent conversation with his honest words. "We'll be okay. You and me. We always are, no matter what" Hailey said, brushing her fingers up against Jay's for a second. "Yeh" Jay agreed, hoping to God that she was right.
