A/N: If Upstead wasn't already married and the unit didn't know about them even being together.

****

It was new years eve and the entire unit were gathered at Kim's place to bring in the new year as a family. They looked back on funny moments that took part in the year and how far they'd all come as a friendship group, a unit, and individually. All of them agreed that bringing Macklaya into the family was definitely one of the best moments of the year.

As the night went on, though, the more they drank, the more lively and happy they all got. Silly games- initiated by no other than the clown of the crowd: Adam Ruzek. The real live version of Peter Pan as they all said. He might have been in his thirties, however, he was a literal child and got the unit doing some interesting games. One which included Kev being a makeshift donkey in a tipsy game of 'pin the tail on the donkey'.

"You make a pretty cute Donkey, Kev" Hailey giggled, definitely the most tipsy out the lot of them.

"Don't let Halstead hear that, I'm pretty sure he's got a thing for you" Kim whispered, a drunk grin plastered across his face.

"And I think Adam has one for you" Hailey fired back, making Kim and Adam blush.

"That's a touché worthy reply that" Halstead chuckled, taking a swig of beer.

As the night went on, the games got more and more daft. Poker with daring dears if they lost a round, a deliberate game of 'Irish Yoga'; which wasn't too hard considering the state they were all in. All that said though, all of them laughed like never before when together. It really was just pure fun and relaxation- spending time together in a way that rarely happened.

"It's almost midnight!" Halstead exclaimed excitedly, interrupting a conversation over how Halstead's new years resolution should be to not get shot.

"Which means you have only a few minutes to get shot if you're gonna" Adam smirked, earning a snarky "haha" from Jay himself.

"If you get shot next year, I'll make sure to blast 'Dan and Shay' every day in the truck" Hailey threatened, painfully aware of how much Jay hated the duo- something she never understood.

"Ima wrap myself in bulletproof clothes in that case" Jay huffed, willing to do anything as long as it resulted in never hearing a 'Dan and Shay' song again.

"Good" Hailey stated.

A few minutes later, the clock stuck midnight and loud cheers roared through Kim's apartment in celebration of the new year officially arriving.

In their tipsy state, Jay and Hailey clashed lips for the traditional kiss- and because they genuinely wanted to kiss each other- taking their friends by total surprise to say the least. Wide eyes and dropped jaws on all three friends' faces.

"I know I'm drunk, but I'm not so drunk that my eyes are playing tricks on me" Kev commented, pulling the happy couple out their little bubble.

"I didn't realise you two were close enough for the traditional kiss" Kim raised her brow suggestively.

"Well, considering its just over a year since our first kiss, I'd say we're close enough for it" Jay smirked- too hell with it, he thought.

"What??" They all ghasped in unison.

Beaming, Hailey and Jay snuggled into each other to prove the point further. "Yep" Hailey nodded.

"Why haven't we found out before now?" Kev frowned, jabbing Hailey in the side and forcing a giggle out of her.

"We thought ya'll knew" Jay said, genuinely thinking they did know; both him and Hailey had over heard conversations they definitely weren't meant to hear.

"We had our suspicions and bets for like two years, but definitely didn't known for sure" Adam answered, his tiny mind still blown.

"Well, happy new year to whoever is owed money" Hailey laughed, smiling widely like she always does when very happy......or tipsy.

"Very happy new year to me. Handover the dosh, boys" Kim grinned, holding out her open hand ready for the money.

"Nice one, Kim" Jay high fived her with his spare hand.

"Ugh, it's five mins into the new year and I'm already down a hundred bucks" Kev groaned, reluctantly handing over dollar bills to Kim.

"And I'm up two hundred, I like this year already" Kim cheered, wafting the cash around proudly.

"This might just be your year after all" Hailey commented, still tucked into Jay's side.

"Never know, you and Adam might just get your act together like Hailey and Jay over there" Kevin winked.

"Yeh, that ain't happening again" Adam and Kim both replied addimently at the same time.

"If you say so" Hailey mumbled against her beet bottle.

"Oh we do" Kim nodded, them all laughing at the urgency to make it clear.
