It had been just over twelve hours since Jay and Hailey tied the knot and celebrated their marriage in the most passionate and loving way possible. Outside was still dark, it only being six am and winter time, but Jay could still see Hailey fast asleep in the side of his body; see the rubber band sitting perfectly on her finger that rested on his stomach.

A huge, teary, smile crept upon his weary face as he remembered every single event of the evening before. He promised to love Hailey forever through anything and everything, he promised to make her life the happiest it could ever be, signed papers that let every person know Hailey Upton was now his wife and a Halstead. Jay got to hear Hailey promise him that she'd love him unconditionally, to spend the rest of her life with him by his side. And then the celebration afterwards that went on till the early morning. The panty whispers of 'I love, you' and 'we're married' that filled the room, the way they perfectly moved together in their own home, the way he got to learn Hailey in new ways. It was all beyond perfect.

There was just one thing that tugged on Jay's heart in a not-so-good way; the fact his Mum never got to meet Hailey and see how amazing she was, nor get to be at the wedding. Jay missed his Mum so badly every day of the week, especially in the most amazing times and the darkest times. He just wished she was right beside him either cheering him on or reminding him it's gonna be okay, just like she always did when Jay was a child. Even a teenager. And, since North bought Jay's past up to him maliciously, he thought about her even more.

As quickly as he fell into the upsetting daydream, Jay was pulled back out of it at the sound of Hailey's soft voice and the tender feeling of her thumb brushing away his fallen tears.

"Hey, you okay?" Hailey softly asked, concern laced in her voice.

"Ugh, yeh. I'm just thinking" Jay replied, bending down and kissing his wife good morning for the first time ever.

"About what?" Sitting up onto her shoulder, Hailey cupped Jay's cheek in her hand; similarly to the way Jay done so with her right before he suggested they get married.

"My Mum" Jay stated, looking Hailey in the eyes for the first real time.

Hailey's heart broke. Jay never talked about his past much, however, his Mum was the one exception. Since they first got together, Jay had began to tell Hailey many stories about his Mum: Like the time she dived into a freezing lake to fish out a batman figure toy loved so much, because she couldn't stand the thought of Jay being so distraught on his eighth birthday. It was clear that Jay absolutely idolised his Mum and missed her dearly. That all his happy childhood memories included Mrs. Halstead, always.

"She's probably cheered when we finally got our act together back in January, ya know. I mean, it was clear to everyone else but us" Hailey chuckled lightly, drawing a teary one out of Jay aswell.

"Probably" Jay agreed, tugging Hailey down and into his side tightly.

"Go see her before work, you've got time" Hailey suggested, looking up to see his reaction. Though, she didn't really need to; his whole body tensed underneath her.

"It's just a suggestion. I didn't mean to over step" Hailey apologised, instantly feeling a pang of guilt.

"You didn't. It's just, it's our first morning as Husband and Wife. We should be like teenagers, yet I'm lying her crying over my Mum. I'm sorry" Jay sighed in a bid to get himself together, he wanted the morning to be special and amazing.

"Jay, never apologise. It's sweet to see you miss your Mum so much, it means you had something to miss" The true meaning behind Hailey's words weren't lost on Jay, which, in a way, made Jay feel even more guilty.
