It had been two months since Hailey had left Chicago for New York, and today was the day that she was due back. Jay and Hailey found it so hard being away from each other: not having each other's back on the field, not being there to do their thing after a rough day. Just not there in general. From the day Hailey told Jay she was leaving, both had a secret countdown for when she'd be back. Being without each other was the worst two months ever.

Hailey climbed off the plane and made her way to baggage collection. It was one in the morning and she was only just awake and functioning, all she wanted was to collapse in her own bed. She hadn't realised how much she loved Chicago until she was pulled away from it for two months.
As she went to grab her suitcase off the carousel, a larger hand swooped in and managed to swipe it just before she layed hands on it. She spun her head around, ready to give the guy a mouthful; but then she saw who it was. Her mouth dropped seeing Jay infront of her, a cheeky grin plastered across his face. Hailey thought she was seeing things, that the tiredness was getting to her, but she heard Jay say her name she knew for sure it wasn't the tiredness. "W...what are you doing here?" Hailey stuttered, over the moon to see Jay- yet also utterly confused to why he was at the airport at one in the morning. "Nice to see you too" Jay laughed, amused by his partner's flusterdness. "Sorry, I just wasn't expecting to see you" Hailey apologised, shaking her head to get herself together. "Yeh, I know. I couldn't let you arrive back home to nobody though; what kinda partner would I be if I let that happen?" Jay smirked, beginning to walk away with Hailey's suitcase. "But....it's one in the morning....you love your sleep" Hailey jabbed, gaining some of her sass back. "Losing some sleep is worth it on this occasion. I missed you, Hails" Jay smiled, pulling Hailey into a side hug as they exited the airport and walked to Jay's truck. "I missed you, too. And, thankyou for coming to pick me up" Hailey was so grateful to have a partner and best friend like Jay, he literally dropped everything for her in a heartbeat. "Ofcourse, Hailey" Jay said, opening up the passenger door for Hailey. "Such a gentleman" Hailey mocked, receiving a sarcastic "Haha" from Jay.

The ride back to Hailey's apartment was spent catching up with each other, spilling all the juicy gossip that happened in New York and at home in Chicago. It was like they'd never been apart, the jokey bantar just cropped back up between them so easily. Unfortunately, the fun sped up time and they arrived back at Hailey's apartment in a blink of an eye. "You're humble abor" Jay joked, parking the car right outside the block door. "Thanks, Jay" Hailey unbuckled herself and slipped out the truck, pausing when she was just about to close the door. Jay watched as Hailey seemed to hesitate about saying something, he could see her clogs ticking like he always could. "You good?" He questioned, his voice a whisper. "Ugh, I know it's late, but you wanna come in?" Hailey blushed, embarrassed over asking a question she'd asked her partner countless times before. "You not shattered?" Jay asked. He wanted to go in so badly, he missed his partner so much. However, he didn't want to stop her from climbing into bed and sleeping forever. "Yeh, but, I missed you and I don't wanna be alone. Obviously you don't have too" Hailey clarified, not wanting Jay to feel forced. "Ofcourse I wanna come in, I missed you aswell" Jay replied, turning off the engine and climbing out himself.

"God it's good to be home" Hailey groaned, as she opened her apartment door and threw off her boots and coat insanely quick. "I bet" Jay commented, folding is coat onto the back of Hailey's sofa. "You want a beer? Hailey asked, pulling out two bottles from her fridge. "Yeh, thanks" Jay accepted, taking the beer off Hailey. The two plonked themselves down on Hailey's sofa, sighing a content sigh of relief: Hailey was back home, and so was Jay. "God I've missed all this. Us, beers, daft o'clock in the morning talks" Hailey sighed, looking across to Jay who was slouched down against the sofa back. "Yeh, me too. I've hated not being able to do this: see you, drink with you, have you next to me" Jay and Hailey locked eyes once again, their eyes talking the conversation their mouths couldn't verbally say. Understanding what the other needed most, Hailey placed her beer on the table and scooched closer to Jay; sliding under is arm and laying her head onto his chest- his arm quickly wrapping around Hailey's tiny side. It was warmth, closure, the security and assurity both halves needed. Finally, they were back home.
