After a busy day at work, the unit join the rest of their first responders family at Molly's. Jay and Hailey sat with Will and Connor on a table, the rest of them scattered around at either the bar or another table. The only odd duck out was Platt, because she was belting out a painful rendition of Livin' On A Prayer, by Bonjovi, since it was karaoke night. Honestly, it was one of the funniest things any of them had layed eyes on. Being in hysterics was an understatement! Hailey was in tears and could barely breathe, Adam was videoing it for future blackmail, and the others were howling. Platt certainly wasn't living that moment down.

Soon enough, the awful singing from Platt died down and the sarcastic comments soon commenced. In true Platt form though, she threw every single jab back in their faces. "Anyway, I don't see any of you in a hurry" Platt raised her brow, challenging one of them to take her on.

"Jay, you go" Will encouraged, the only one who knew Jay's unreal talent when it came to country singing. Jay was embarrassed about his hidden talent, nobody other than Will had heard him sing- and Will was only by accedent, too. "Nah, Bro, they don't wanna hear my voice" Jay shook his head, no way was he about to embarrass himself infront of everyone. "Go on, Jay, you've got this!" Hailey encouraged, a teasing smirk forming on her face. For three months now, the two had secretly been dating. Voight obviously had figured it out after around a month and was totally fine with it, but the others were totally clueless. "No...not even for you" Jay replied. There was no getting out of it though, because the entire bar began chanting his name. "GO ON, HALSTEAD!" Stella bellowed across the bar, slightly tipsy herself. "I hate ya'll so much" Jay mumbled, sliding past Hailey and making his way to the stage.

"What's your favourite song?" Hermann asked.

"Ughhhh. She Don't Know, by Walker Montgomery" Jay blushed, his deepest secret about to be exposed.

Within seconds, Hermann tracked down the song and the intro started. Jay inhaled a shakey breath, before slowly starting to sing to the tune. Gasps of awe were released from the entire population of Molly's, when the beautiful sound of Jay's voice met their ears.

"How didn't we know he could sing?" They all thought.

Throughout the romantic song, Hailey's eyes were focused so hard on Jay and his voice. The words he was saying, and the timing of when he looked across to her with a twinkle in his eyes, Hailey knew he was singing about her. Her heart swelled, she'd just fallen in love with Jay even more. Jay felt the words just as hard as Hailey did, just from the singers point of view. He ment every word that came out his mouth, they were promises to Hailey. Promises and compliments that he'd always say and keep.

The song ended and the tearful audience clapped the Detective for his amazing voice. They were all so moved by his voice and the way he sang. Without a doubt, the emotion in his voice was because of who he was really singing to and about. It wouldn't have been so emotional if Hailey wasn't there. "Dude, your voice!" Severide said, patting Jay on the shoulder as he walked past. "Thanks" Jay smiled shyly, wanting to get back to Hailey quickly.

"Jay, that was fantastic. Why have you never told us?" Hailey asked, her voice choaked. "I don't know, I've never really thought it was anything worth sharing" Jay answered honestly. "Jeeze man. You've got us all in tears, and you're saying it's not anything worth sharing? You seen Hailey, Kim, Stella, Brett, and Nat, right? They're a state" Matt chuckled, amused by the state of the five women. "Yeh, well" Jay shrugged, embarrassed to say the least. Attention and praise was never his thing, especially when it was people close to him who was giving it.

Three hours later, Jay and Hailey were cuddling together on Jay's sofa; enjoying a good old rom-com to finish off the evening with. Hailey couldn't stop thinking about Jay's voice, it was the most precious thing she'd ever heard. The most special words that had ever been sang/said to her.
"Where's your head at, Hailey Upton?" Jay questioned, knowing Hailey's mind was racing without even needing to look her in the face. "Just thinking about before. Your voice: it's incredible" Hailey complimented, truly not able to find the words to describe it...to describe how it made her heart swell. "Hu" Jay smiled, kissing his girl on the top of the head. "I think you already know, but all that was directed at you" Jay continued, falling into the vulnerable trap once again. "I had an inkling. The way you looked at me, it kinda gave it away" Hailey replied, bending her head to look into Jay's eyes. "And the way you turned into a state gave it away about you knowing" Jay chuckled, stroking Hailey's hair gently. "I wasn't the only one a mess" Hailey threw back defensively. "No, but you were the only one crying so badly. The other girls were a mess, but not even close to you" Jay argued, he wasn't wrong. Hailey had tears streaming down her face, like, a lake of tears; the other girls only had the odd tear escaping. "Whatever" Hailey rolled her eyes, a cute grin crawling across her face.

"Just one thing" Hailey turned and sat up straight so was facing Jay, a serious expression appearing. "Yeh" Jay nodded, worried for what was to come. "You don't watch me sleep, do you?" Hailey furrowed her brows, making Jay laugh a little. "Well, sometimes if I'm struggling to sleep or woken up before you. You're just so beautiful and peaceful when you sleep" Jay said, removing a strand of hair from Hailey's face. "If it weren't for the soppy compliment and the fact I love you, I'd have you down as a creep" Hailey chuckled, not realising the last part actually escaped her mouth.

"Hu?"

"What?" Hailey asked, confused to Jay's gauped expression.

"The last part. You said...I love you" Jay quoted.

"Oh, I'm sorry. It just came out, I didn't even realise it came out verbally...I"

"I love you, too" Jay interrupted with the goofiest, most loveable smile. "Yeh?" Hailey sighed, disbelief almost. "Yeh. So much" Jay assured. "You're truly wonderful" Hailey whispered, kissing Jay a thousand words. "So are you" Jay retorted, once their kiss had broken.
