After finally landing back in Chicago, Hailey made her way through security and luggage claim quicker than expected. She wandered around the area Jay said he'd be waiting for her, and it didn't take her long to spot the tall, dark hair detective among the small crowed. A huge grin sprawled across her face, at the sight of Jay waiting for her; exited butterflies in her stomach flipping and diving around. She got to Jay eventually, the smile on both their faces getting bigger and bigger by the second. Hailey saw her first glimps of home. "Hey, Hails" Jay almost whispered, taking her in again for the first time in over a month. Sure they'd face timed, but it wasn't the same as physically face to face. "Hey" she shyly replied, searching his face for whatever feeling that was radiating off him. "How you doing? I missed you" Jay asked. "I missed you, too. Its nice to be home again. I missed it" Hailey answered, both their hearts racing behind the true meaning of the comment. Jay and Hailey talked with their eyes, the conversation too delicate to have verbally.  It wasn't too long though, before the silent conversation came to a halt and they both swooped into each other; their lips connecting like magnets. Sparks flew between the two immediately, the fuse finally blowing: the line officially had been crossed and it was about damn time. Reluctantly pulling out the kiss, Jay said "I agree, it's nice to be home", smiling at how bashfully blushed Hailey was beneath him. "Yeh" Hailey nodded, biting the bottom of her lip and tugging gently on his coat. "Come on, let's get you back to your humble abor" Jay smiled, grabbing Hailey's suit case for her and leading her out the exit and to his truck.
The journey back to Hailey's apartment was a comfortable silence, however, there was now a brand new elephant in the truck that neither of then wanted to address. Jay nor Hailey wanted to bring up the conversation about what the extent of the kiss was, a fear of wrecking everything they had if they spoke coming from deep within them. Over the years, the partners had built such an amazing friendship and deep level of trust, and ruining all that over a kiss was absolutely terrifying to them both. Especially when they'd just gotten each other back. Obviously they both knew how they felt towards each other now for certain now, but were they ready to fully leap across the line....the line of safety?
"I guess this is you" Jay spoke up, pulling up in an empty spot just outside Haileys apartment block. "Yeh" Hailey nodded slowly, a slight sense of awkwardness creeping up. "Come up. The last thing I wanna to right now I sit alone...again...and we've both been waiting desperately to have a beer together that isn't over face time" Hailey chuckled, earning one back off Jay and breaking the awkwardness slightly. The way his deep chuckle filled the space they're in with such joy and safety was overwhelming for Hailey, but in such a good way. A fantastic way. And the mischievous glint that lingered in his eyes when he smiled was just so knee-weakening.....lighting her heart up in seconds. "You not tired?" Jay questioned, wanting nothing more than to spend time with Hailey- it's all he'd thought about the last few weeks- but he knew that she'd be tired and probably just want to collapse in bed for years. "Yeh, but I also really wanna do our thing" Hailey answered, fiddling with a bit of loose string at the bottom of her hoodie. "Me, too. Come on" Jay smiled, stopping the engine and jumping out the truck.

In the apartment, the two talked over a bottle of beer each- quickly falling back into their old way of laughing and talking with each other over anything and everything. Hailey told Jay about all the crazy moments in New York and Jay properly updated Hailey on all the gossip. He'd told her a little bit of it over their daily face time calls, but face to face was much easier and way more gun. God, they missed each other so freaking much. Only when they were separated for a month, did they realise full force how much they meant to each other. Their feelings for each other brewed along time ago, but the distance made them realise that those feelings were their to stay and didn't want to stay silent anymore.

After a few more minutes of chatting, laughing and hopelessly admiring each other, the radio in the background switched to one of their favourite songs: Running home to you, Barry Allan. The timing was impeccable, considering the situation both Hailey and Jay were currently in and the real meaning of the song. The talking stopped and heart race increased. Jay looked at Hailey and she looked at him, both thinking the same thing; this is our story.
Jay stuck his hand out to Hailey as he rose from the sofa, an offer for her to take it and join him standing up. Anxious tingles sprinted through their vains, as Hailey accepted his hand and stood ever so close to him. Faces almost touching; Jay's arm around her waist; Haileys arms around Jay's neck; and slowly they started swaying along to the beat of the music. Every single word from the song hit deeply, truthfully. It was the song that summed up their story perfectly.
Hailey and Jay explored each others eyes, both of them full of love and adoration. Hailey stood to her tippy-toes and brushed her lips against Jay's for the second time that evening- the swaying stopping, as they savoured the feeling of their lips together properly. It was a feeling both new they'd never get used too, nor a feeling they'd ever want to forget or never feel again.
"Hailey" Jay whispered breathlessly, pulling away from Hailey just slightly. "Yeh?" Hailey questioned, a wave of panic crashing over her. "I'm completely in love with you, and I have been for a long time" Jay admitted, brushing a tear delicately off Haileys cheek. "I'm completely in love with you aswell, so much" Hailey reciprocated, a huge, dopy grin flashing across both their faces. They searched each others eyes again for a few more minutes, before reconnecting their lips; this time along more passionately- but still gentle, just as they always were towards each other. "You're beautiful" Jay completemented, during a quick pause for breath. "Home" was all Hailey stated, the simple word having such a complex meaning behind it. It was the best complement Jay could ever receive, his heart bursting because she was his home aswell.
