Gist: Jay asks Hailey to marry him
The sun slowly began to fall asleep on Hailey and Jay, as they cuddled together underneath a blanket on the edge of a mountain. In blissful peace in each others arm's, they admired the beautifully spectacular view that lay infront of them. The trees darkened to silhouettes infront of the ever-growing orange sky, evening birds sang nighttime songs into the gentle breeze. It was the most perfect evening both Jay and Hailey had ever had. And what made it even better, was that they were in each others arm's.
However, unknown to Hailey, her evening was about to get a milliontimes better in only a few minutes time.
To start the moment off, Jay kissed the blonds temple gently- earning a contnent sigh in return. The sigh sent chills up his back, reminding him why he was about the take the biggest leap he was ever going to take. Adjusting himself a little, he sucked in a deep breath and began with reminiscent small talk. "This reminds me of the time we all went to Hawaii for an undercover mission" Jay said, catching Hailey's attention. "How come?" She asked, turning to face the freckley detective. "Because that evening on the beach. You ran down the beach giggling like a child, as you chased after Adam who stole your sandels" Jay chuckled, replaying the whole scene again mentally. Okay, more the way Hailey screeched Adam's name at the same time as laughing uncontrollably, whilst pegging it down the beach in a bid to catch up with Adam. "That's the polar opposite of this evening. The only similarity, is that the sun was almost gone and we were both in shorts" Hailey commented, smiling at how much fun that evening in Hawaii was. It wasn't often the team hung out like they did that evening. Usually the extent of hanging out was a beer at Molly's, but that evening was far more than just a beer. It was an evening where a family actually came together properly for the first time, and just enjoyed each others company; laughing, eating, wandering in silence, and winding each other up relentlessly.
"True, but that evening was also the evening where I realised that what I felt for you wasn't normal"
"What?" Hailey exhaled in a whispered tone.
Her and Jay had never talked about the moment they realised they'd fallen for the other. It wasn't that they didn't want too, it was just that it had never crossed their minds too. When they got together two and a half years ago, things felt easily normal that they'd never given anything before hand a second thought. It was like they'd been a couple for years.
"The warm and pure joyful feeling that flowed through me as I watched you run and listened to you laugh, it was the moment it clicked. The moment where I realised that I didn't just love you as a partner, a best friend; but actually I was IN love with you. I actually shocked myself, because the words escaped my mouth before it clicked mentally" Jay's eyes were filled with love, as he looked sincerely into Hailey's tearful eyes. "Really? Then?" Hailey said, wiping a tear off her cheek. "Yeh" Jay nodded. Both of them smiled like idiots, leaning in to kiss their words to each other.
"Does that mean you're falling in love with me all over again now?" Hailey joked, oblivious to that he was. Though, it was in a completely different kind of way. "Yeh" Jay simply stated, a tiny smile tugging at his lips corner. Hailey was lost for words, the man never failed to continuously amaze her with the things he said about her- or even done for her- that made her feel like she'd won the lottery a million times over. Taking Hailey's loss for words to his advantage, he shuffled around onto one knee and pulled a velvet box out his pocket.
"Hailey, you're my everything. My happiness, my safe place, my warmth, the love of my life. I couldn't imagen being without you ever. I'm completely in love with you. So, will you marry me?
Hailey's hands cupped her mouth, and tears of happiness streamed down her face. Not in a million years did she ever think such an amazing man would ask her to marry him, never mind a man who was as amazing as the one leaning on one knee infront of her. "Yes" Hailey cried, finally able to get the words out her mouth. Jay carefully slid the silver diamond ring onto Hailey's finger, before she lept forward and wrapped her arms around his neck. He hugged her back just as tightly, his hands wrapped around her waist perfectly. "I love you so much, Jay" Hailey sobbed, truly head over heels for Jay. "I love you, too, Hailey" Jay retorted, his own happy tears being freed.
A/N: literally zero inspiration for weeks, then this pops to mind at 3am on a school morning. I really enjoyed writing this one (even if I was half asleep😂🥴), and am actually rather proud of it. Hopefully one day Jay will actually propose to Hailey, then we can all freak out over it- lol.
Anyways, please comment what you think (along with any one-shot suggestions you'd like me to write) and vote- if you want ofcourse. Thankyou❤
