"Remember when you stole those cookies?"
Leaning back against the tree behind me, I grinned at Tubbo's random comment.
"I'm still not over that"
"Tommy it was literally over a week ago, jeez"
I sighed as the smell of burning wood filled my nostrils, watching the flames consume the log pile we'd gathered a few hours before. All of Pogtopia's citizens had gathered around a fire pit that Technoblade had kindly built early in the morning.

Well, all the members apart from one.

Wilbur had disappeared earlier to do some 'war preparations' but he'd been acting strangely, even stranger than normal. He'd been sneaking around and avoiding any type of social interaction with the rest of the group, and I was getting a little sceptical. The rest of us, on the other hand, gathered in a circle around the campfire, savouring the serenity before the chaos broke out in the early hours of tomorrow.

"Well, I've had a lovely night with you all, but I think it's time for me to head off to bed so I get a decent amount of sleep for the whole war thing tomorrow"
I slowly pulled myself off of the ground, brushing off the muck that had gathered on my clothes.
"Night Y/N!"
I sent the group one last wave over my shoulder before I headed through the forest and back to Pogtopia.

I wasn't actually going to go to bed just yet. Instead, I was going to grab some last-minute supplies for tomorrow, like extra arrows and whatnot. But as I rummaged through the chests scattered around the ravine, I didn't fail to notice the footsteps that echoed around the walls of the cave. At first I thought it was everyone else coming in to settle for the night, but when I only heard the sound of a single set of footsteps, I took it upon myself to scare whoever it was. Doing a brief pencil roll, which looked amazing I might add, I made it to one of the many corridors leading away from the main ravine and pushed up against the wall so whoever it was wouldn't be able to see me as they approached. But I didn't expect the footstep to stop so quickly. I cautiously peered around the corner of the wall, only to see someone crouched over what appeared to be a hole of some sort. Looking closer, Looking closer, I immediately recognised the all-too-familiar brown trench coat.

So was this what he was doing while everyone else was out?

I stepped out into the open slowly, trying to figure out what the brunette was up to. I tiptoed across the ravine as quietly as possible until I was only a few metres away from Wilbur. I hadn't managed to grab his attention until I accidentally knocked a pebble with my foot, the sound of it rolling on the floor filling the silence that once surrounded us. His head spun around to look for the source of the noise, and his eyes locked with mine.

I watched as his eyes widened and his grip on the glass box he was holding loosened, causing it to shatter on the stone floor, scattering the crimson dust that had been contained within it.
"So it is you!"
"What are you-"
I stood there watching as he backed up slowly, his eyes widening even more as he realised what I was about to say.
"You're the traitor Will! You're still going to blow up L'Manburg aren't you? That's why you've got redstone, that's why you've been acting so weird lately. You've been trying to distance yourself from everyone so you don't hurt them as much!"

"I- no- wait- what?"
I rolled my eyes as I stalked over to the taller male, maintaining a straight expression.
"I know you really want to blow it up Will. I get it, it's not the same as it used to be, but please, please think about how what you're going to do will affect everyone else"
I sent him a faint smile before wrapping my arms around his waist and pulling him into an embrace.
"Whatever you decide to do Will, no matter how angry it might make me, I'll be here for you no matter what, okay?"

I felt his body relax against mine as he wrapped his arms around my smaller figure.
"I'm sorry"
I just smiled up at him again before pulling away and walking back to my room.
"We might even win tomorrow. Not all hope is lost"
And with that, I headed to bed, eager for the events that would take place tomorrow.

Oversleeping wasn't something new for me, I did it quite often after staying up late actually. But today was different. Today it was strategical almost. Techno and I had agreed that he'd do the grand reveal of all the equipment we'd gathered for everyone else while I caught up on the sleep I'd missed the previous few days. I rolled out of bed, yawning while goosebumps coated my skin as the cool air brushed against me. The only noise throughout the cave was my own breathing, leaving me trapped in an eerie silence.

As I looked around, a black piece of cloth caught my eye. It was on a small wooden table in the back corner of my room which had gone untouched for many weeks. With a sigh, I took the beanie Wilbur had given me on the day of the horrible festival many weeks ago and placed it on my head. I'd never found the opportunity to give it to him, and he'd never asked for it back, so it'd been sitting in my room ever since.
"What you doing?"
My heart surged into my mouth and my breathing increased as I jumped what felt like ten feet in the air. Until seconds earlier, I was completely unaware of the masked man that stood behind me.

"What the actual fuck Dream"
I turned around to face him, only to discover him just a few inches away from me.
"Woah, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed, jeez"
"I suppose you would too if you found out your best friend was still planning on blowing up your home after all the work we've done to get it back. It puts a lot of stress on someone you know"
"What..."
"Well I assume that's what he's doing when he's smuggling extra red stone in here that you probably gifted him"

I watched as the cogs in his mind turned as he tried to think of a reasonable response that wouldn't lead to an argument.
"It's fine, there's nothing I can do to stop you. I just hope that Wilbur will start to think straight before he goes and does something he'll regret for the rest of his life"
I watched as the tension in his body dissipated, causing him to lift his mask and place it on his sandy hair. The next thing I knew, I was dragged into his chest in a warm embrace, his soft breathing brushing against my forehead.

"What happens happens okay? No matter what becomes of either side, you can't blame yourself for any of it. This is just how it's meant to be Y/N"
I just nodded slightly as I buried my head deeper into his chest and wrapped my arms around his torso, earning a chuckle from the blond.
"But I'll promise you one thing"
My heart rate spiked in response to his words, prompting me to press my chin against the centre of his chest so I could look him in the eyes.
"I promise you that if anyone tries to lay a finger on you, they'll have to answer to me okay"
I smiled as he leaned down to gently place his lips against my forehead, causing me to close my eyes and savour the moment.

When I opened them, however, he was gone.

Was I imagining it all?
