Grey.

That's all it was.

That's all it'll ever be.

Grey is a rather bizarre colour.

Dark but not as dark as it could be.

With little light to find within it.

"So let's go over the plan one more time"
Tearing my gaze away from the wall I'd been staring at for who knows how long, I finally paid attention to the world around me. I was leaning back on my chair, leaning it against the wall while the two other boys in the room bickered over anything and everything.

I had been debating what I should do.
I'd asked Dream several questions regarding everything that was going on in my head but that only seemed to anger him.

"Do I know this Technoblade guy? Cause he seems oddly familiar"
He only shifted his gaze away from me, as if he wanted to be more closed off.
"Surely if he was worth some sort of importance, you would've remembered him already?"

"Where'd I get the beanie from?"
"It was a present from your friend when you were younger before he got sick. You guys were inseparable"

"Apparently there's someone in exile..."
"Who told you that?"
Before I could even think of answering, he turned around to face me, his exhausted green eyes seeking my own for an explanation.
"No one, I just thought..."
"No one's in exile Y/N. You can't just go around believing everything you hear"
"Who's Tommy then?"
He shook his head and looked away.
"Nobody"

"So Y/N, what do you need to do?"
My arms made a thud as they came into contact with the table as I swung forward in my chair.
"Right so, for the one-hundredth time, I come in from the east side of the stand they've set up and start a conversation with the 'butcher army' or whatever the fuck they've decided to call themselves. While I do that, you two will have a look about and scope out the area and decide when to strike"

The dirty blond that sat across from me just clapped. It wasn't one of those nice encouraging claps though; instead, it was sarcastic and forced. The dude had never liked me for some reason and I couldn't quite work out why. He just went around with his hood up and his head down, always covered in golden chains wherever he went.

It just seemed all too familiar.

Rolling my eyes, I returned my gaze to the other male in the room, who was currently death staring Punz from behind his mask.
"Right, okay then, I think that's us done. If we just do that tomorrow, everything will go perfectly and we'll end up with Technoblade indebted to us"
"You mean you"

As the boys began to bicker again, I just scoffed and rose from my seat, hoping to reawaken my dead leg.
"You know what, I'm going to see Ant. I can't be arsed with your shit right now"
Punz stormed off after that, leaving me and the masked man alone once more.
"You really need to get better friends, you know that?"
He just strolled towards the door with a faint chuckle.
"It's not like I have an option at this point"
"Seems like a you problem"

With that, I skipped out the door with my head held high as I mentally prepared myself for another day of snooping around.
"Y/N!"
I sighed, feeling as if I'd already had enough social interaction for a day.
"What?"
"I was wondering if you wanted the day off"
I just stood there, staring at the man in front of me. In the month and a half that I'd been there, I'd never been given a day off, so why was I getting one all of a sudden.

"That would be nice"
The man simply nodded in response to my statement, causing me to turn away, assuming he had finished speaking.
"WAIT!"
I flinched slightly at his raised voice while his hand came into contact with my wrist, holding it in place. We stood there for a few moments, me trying to move my hand away from him while he stood firm and remained silent, as if contemplating something.

"Where are you going?"
I just scowled up at him before withdrawing my hand from his clutches and turning away.
"To bed"
"Right..."
I sent him one last glare, dragging my feet as I made my way to my bed.

Dream's POV

She walked off, or should I say stormed off because she literally sounded like an elephant as she thumped her way up the stairs.

"What the actual fuck mum?"
She just let out a contagious chuckle as she emerged from behind the door, literally two metres away from where Y/N had been standing. Her sheep ears poked out the edges of her black pirate cap, which perched atop her fluffy white locks. Her famous eyeglasses shielded her eyes, and her crimson jacket fell to just past her knees, covering most of her outfit, the encrusted gold gleaming in the sunshine.

"Nice to see you too, little duckling"
After rolling my eyes at her remark, I slumped against the wall and slowly slid down it.
"Duckling, really?"
Coming waltzing out from the shadows was an extremely tall green-haired man. He wore a slightly darker green hoodie than my own, black joggers, and a crown encrusted with what appeared to be emeralds. He also wore a big black gas mask that covered the bottom of his face, only leaving his green eyes and his freckled forehead exposed.

"Pipe down Sam, I'm paying your wages dipshit"
He wasn't supposed to be there. He was supposed to be working, not slacking off to catch up with an old friend.
"Dream, take a breather okay? We only came to talk"
Tutting, but a little apprehensive at her louder voice, I locked my masked eyes on the floor, waiting for my mother to continue.

"So I heard that your umm 'friend' is back"
I just rolled my eyes as I unclipped the back of my mask and peeled it away from my face. It wasn't like they hadn't seen my face before. It was my mum and her best friend for goodness sake.
"We made a deal, that's all"
I felt like a child about to get yelled at for doing something they shouldn't have.

"You know what I've said about making deals with that... thing Clay"
A wave of guilt rushed over me as I looked at the wood planks on the floor, subconsciously picking at my nails.
"He said he'd help me if I helped him"
The women knelt in front of me as I scooted away, backing as far away as I could against the wall.

"Help him with what?"
Her voice was as sweet as honey, the same as it had always been, as if nothing had changed.
"If I helped him, then he said he would protect it, that he would protect her from me."
My voice raised a little as I thought about what I'd risked to keep them safe and out of harm's way.
"What did you want him to protect though? Was it some gems or armour..."

"The girl"

"I need to keep her safe"
