I pulled the duvet higher over my face as more sunlight slipped through the scarlet curtains at the other side of the room. The sweet smell of cherry blossoms filled my nostrils once again. I shuffled around in the fresh bedsheets, trying to get more comfortable. It was nice. The peace. The quiet.
No one was there to bother me. I finally had time to myself.
I quite enjoyed the isolation I'd put myself in. I had no one but my thoughts and I was okay with that.
I deserved that.I attempted to ignore the afternoon sun that lit up my room by squeezing my eyes shut, but there was no way I could go back to sleep. Slowly, I pushed myself up to my feet and rubbed my eyes. I then swivelled around and planted my feet on the cold hardwood floor before moving over to the curtains, letting out a yawn.
The room was pretty big, with the four-poster bed I'd just been laying on in the centre of the back wall opposite the doorway. The whole wall on the left-hand side was full of huge windows which were covered with silk curtains in an attempt to keep the light out. But they weren't doing a good job.
Sighing, I pulled back a curtain to finally allow the sun's warm rays to cover the room as I peered through the window. As I watched the birds chase each other about in the skies, chirping happily at each other as they flew through the air, a smile appeared on my face.
"I know you're there"
I didn't even need to turn around to feel the pair of hazel eyes gazing over my figure, probably looking for possible injuries or self-inflicted wounds.
"How'd you know?"
I slowly spun around to face the raven-haired boy as a smile grew on my face.
"I saw you in the reflection dumb ass"The boy's grin seemed to grow even further as I turned to face him. He was in his usual attire, a white T-shirt, black slacks and a white bandana to keep his hair away from his eyes. And for once, there wasn't a piece of armour or a weapon in sight. I started to make my way over to him while he did the same and seconds later I was wrapped in his warm embrace.
I slowly pulled away from Sapnap as I looked him in the eyes.
"How are you doing?"
I started walking away as I spoke, heading back to sit on the unmade bed I'd just left minutes beforehand.
"I'm alright actually, stuff's going well.
But, since we've not seen each other for a while, I do have something to show you"I just nodded as he came down to sit beside me and he rolled back his shoulders before he extended his left arm to me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as I looked down at his hand, but what he was showing me became apparent in an instant.
"You're getting married?"
He turned away as a blush quickly crept over his cheeks.
"Who's the lucky partner?""Partners..."
My grin widened as I jumped on top of my friend and hugged him, shoving him back onto the bed with the force of my embrace.
"I'm happy for you Sap. But you still didn't say who they are. And when can I meet them? Can I come to the wedding..."
He pressed his finger to my lips to silence me as he shook his head, trying not to laugh."Of course you can come to the wedding, but all that doesn't matter right now. I came here to talk to you and see how you are, not to go on about myself"
I scowled up at him as my face fell.
"But..."
I rolled off of him as he went to sit up, his eyes still staying on me as I moved away.
"How are you holding up? I never really expected you to hide away in Eret's castle. You know, I thought you would've gone back with Dream""Yeah. No, we're not exactly on talking terms and I don't think we will be. Ever"
His eyes widened as he processed what I said. He quickly rolled his eyes as he shook his head.
"What's he done now? You want me to go beat him up because I swear if he's hurt you..."
In an attempt to calm him down, I quickly made my way over to him and put my hands on his shoulders."It's all good. I was just a bit stupid, that's all. He used the whole manipulation tactic again and boom I'm back here all hurt over it"
Sapnap's mouth fell open at my words.
"Did you..."
"Yeah, I cared about him. More than any sane person should have. But I think it was more remorse than anything now that I look at it. He seemed lonely and I thought I could help him. You know how it is"I laughed as I fell back on my bed, happy about finally being able to talk about it.
"I saw it coming from a mile away honestly, even though I couldn't even remember my own birthday. It was my undisclosed job from the beginning, keeping him happy so he didn't take his anger out on L'manburg. I was like the distraction and the shield all at once and that's all I ever was. But with L'manburg gone, I don't really have a purpose anymore.
I don't even have Tommy"Sapnap pulled me back into yet another hug, leading me to wrap my arms around his torso.
"I'm sure Tommy will understand if you just explain it all to him"
I just nodded against his chest.
"Yeah..."Many hours later, I stood in front of the pair of oak doors with my fist raised, prepared to knock, but my nerves were keeping me from actually doing it.
So I stood like an idiot, contemplating everything that could go wrong until the door opened in front of me, a blond boy standing in its place.
"What do you want?"I gulped as I lowered my fist, unable to make eye contact with the boy.
"To talk"
"We've got nothing to talk about"
He turned to walk past me but I grabbed his hand, keeping him rooted to the spot.
"Please"With a roll of his eyes, Tommy led me into his humble abode and sat down on one of his many chests.
"Well explain yourself then"
So that's what I did. I told him everything, from the memory loss, to finding him and even the explosives Dream had planted to stop me from leaving but my brother's facial expression never changed a bit."So that's it?"
I nodded as I kept my gaze on the floor, too nervous to make eye contact. Then he burst out laughing uncontrollably. My head shot up so I could look at him and he was bright red as tears welled in his eyes.
"What..."
"Oh please, that's the most bullshit I've ever heard! You were all lovey-dovey and shit. There's no way you didn't like it there. He's gone and left, hasn't he? He's thrown you out so now you've come crawling back"
I stood up, my face falling as I listened to him."What no!"
He also stood up and made his way towards me, fire blazing in his eyes.
"You thought I'd believe this shit? That I'd welcome you back with open arms?"
"Why would I make it up?"
He rolled his eyes and he threw his hands up in the air.
"Cause it's all part of you're master plan with green dipshit or something, I don't know?""Tommy please, what can I do to make you trust me?"
I moved a step closer to him, my grief visible on my face as I begged him to listen, to look at me like I was his sister once again.
"Nothing"
He just took one last glance at me and his expression changed to one of disgust.
"You were the worst thing that ever happened to me"
"What?"
A giant lump formed in my throat at his words, leaving me speechless as I looked him in the eyes.He was never going to understand.
He had no reason to.
"Leave..."
My eyes widened as I watched him turn away.
"Tommy..."
"Did you not hear me? GET THE FUCK OUT!"
I flinched at the sudden rise in volume as tears rolled down my cheeks. I turned around and slowly walked to the door, silently praying he would stop me, that he would change his mind. But when my hand came in contact with the oak door, I knew it was finally over.
With one final glance over my shoulder, I opened the door.
"Just remember that I love you Tommy"And I left.
