Ranboo's POV

War was approaching.
And I was stuck in the middle of it.
I was an ally to both sides.
Unable to choose.

Dear Technoblade,
I am sure you are well aware of the current conflict we find ourselves in.
I am just writing this to inform you that I plan on having nothing to do with the fight in a few days. Now that may change from now until then but I highly doubt it will.
Personally, I don't really see the point in 'sides.' I see it more as choosing people no matter what they stand for.
I know you might not understand where I'm coming from, not many people do, and I completely get that.
So in the event that I do decide to participate in the war for whatever reason, I hope you do not hold it against me.

Best wishes,
Ranboo

I sighed and sat back in my chair, plopping the pen on my desk. I'd been attempting to write a letter to Technoblade for two hours, but I come up with the right words for what I was trying to say. Silence engulfed the room as I sat in thought, wondering how I'd gotten myself into such a mess, or why I'd bothered staying...

My eyes darted to the door as a loud bang jolted me up in my seat. I watched as my bedroom door slowly creaked open, a smile quickly growing on my face.
"Boo!"
I chuckled at the small brunette who stood in my doorway. He wasn't wearing his usual suit and tie. Actually, he hadn't worn it for days. Instead, he was decked out in gleaming netherite armour that glistened in the dim light in my room. It made a light clinking sound as he made his way over to where I sat.

"I know you said you had something to do today, but I really need your help"
I looked into the brunette's eyes as I contemplated what he was saying. Yes, I was busy and it was important, but he'd welcomed me to stay there with open arms, even after what happened to George's house. He even considered me a friend when no one else did. Helping him was the least I could do.

Signing, I stood up and sheathed my sword that had been resting on my bedside table.
"Where exactly are we going?"
The brown-haired boy began to bounce his way towards the door once again.
"Netherite mining, I need supplies"
I sent him a brief nod as he left my room, leaving me to grab my netherite pickaxe before heading out after him.

As the breeze brushed across my skin, I felt a slight chill run down my spine. The sky was cloudy, allowing little to no light through as I joined the brunette on the paths of L'manburg. We walked side by side as we followed the wooden oak walkway leading to the nether portal. There was some light chatter going on amongst us as we made our way through the forest. Tubbo's face even had a little smile on it as he forgot about the upcoming war.

"No but seriously cats are so much better. Jjjjjjjjeffrey will come and sit on my shoulder and he is literally immune to fall damage!"
Tubbo shook his head at me as he grinned.
"BeeInnit can literally fly you dummy"
I felt my smile falter as I realised my mistake.
"Yeah but you know what I mean..."
My voice faded as I turned to face Tubbo, only to see that he now wasn't there. Doing a one-eighty, I saw the small brunette standing frozen a couple of metres away.

"We need to go"
I furrowed my brows at him as his face morphed into disgust.
"The traitor's here"
I could practically hear the gulp of the girl that stood behind me as Tubbo glared at her.
"I just need to-"
I turned around to face the girl right before Tubbo started storming over to her.
"Why'd you do it huh? Why'd you stab us in the back?"

I reached out to my companion, attempting to stop him before he did anything stupid.
"You think I wanted to walk away? You think I wanted to leave you?"
The brunette in my arms let out an exaggerated laugh as he scowled at the girl.
"Don't you fucking dare start with the excuses"
As my gaze travelled over the girl's form, I remained silent. Her arms were littered with purple bruises and deep gashes, some deeper than others.

"Hold on. Are you alright Y/N?"
The girl only locked eyes with mine for a split second before returning her gaze back to the floor.
"I'm fine"
I'd never heard something so blunt come from her. She was shying away from the question and I knew it. I did it myself all the time.

"Look, I know you don't want to talk to me and I completely get that. But please, just hear me out"
I nudged the boy beside me as he shook his head.
"Come on Tubs, let the girl talk"
The young man in question narrowed his eyes, but his little nod was barely noticeable.
"Alright. I'll make this as short as possible. In two days time, the war is arranged to take place at dawn. However, Dream is planning on making the first strike earlier than that when you are all still preparing"

My eyes darted between the two as I took in her information.
It was a dirty play, yes, of course it was.
But was I surprised?
No, not in the slightest.
"Why are you telling us this Y/N?"
The girl just shrugged as she turned away.
"Not everything is as it seems you know. It's best not to judge until you know both sides of the story"
With that, she walked away, her head held high.

With a faint smile on my face, I watched as she vanished beyond the horizon.
"I told you there was something else going on"
