Mingi's chest was tight. Walking down the corridor, he kept his head high, despite feeling a burning deep in his heart. He'd known the day would come where he'd know for sure Yunho didn't feel the same way he did - whether that be after confessing, or letting him find out on his own like now, - but he still wasn't ready for it. It was painful, and his whole chest ached as memory after memory of times they'd spent together crossed his mind - ones that had once been merely friendly moments, that were now thwarted with pain.
'Oh, Mingi Haksaeng? Are you headed over to the theatres now?'
* A/N: Haksaeng 학생 means 'student' and is a type of title, such as Saem for 'teacher/doctor' *
Mingi turned slowly to see his buddy striding towards him.
'I heard Ki Saem is taking over the surgery. I think he's got that student with him whose parents used to work here too, so you won't be the only student.'
Yunho.
Mingi's heart throbbed.
On the brink of tears, he nodded. 'Y-yes... Saem...'
His preceptor stopped beside him, tilting his head to the side as he inspected his expression. 'Are you feeling okay? You look a bit pale...'
Mingi didn't know what to say, because no, he wasn't okay. He was in pain, and he really didn't want to see Yunho right now... Not after what had just happened.
But he was also mid shift and required in surgery in five minutes.
'U- U-' Mingi said, in the first syllable to the word 'I.' But he couldn't finish.
'Are you not feeling well?'
Mingi shook his head.
'Aw that's awful. Take the rest of the shift off. Go home and rest,' his preceptor said kindly, giving him a warm brush on the arm. 'You students are overworked. Get some rest. Don't worry about your time sheet, I'm happy to sign it another day.' He gave Mingi a warm smile. 'Go on,' he encouraged.
And so Mingi nodded. Bowing quite significantly in appreciation, he kept his head bowed until his buddy had continued down the hall, leaving him all along in the dim corridor.
Home... he thought.
San...
Mingi
San-ah
U'll probably be asleep,
but I'm coming home. Don't hit me with a bat when I come in in the dark
♡♡♡Glancing at the time, he could hardly believe that he half wished that Yunho had've broken his heart a little sooner in the evening. At least then, San would be awake for him to talk to...
Min, he's just a boy. Cry today, recuperate tomorrow.
He's not the only man in the world.
But as he headed to the locker room to collect his belongings, he couldn't help but feel like this broken heart was going to take more nursing and a longer healing time than he'd ever needed before.
