[KIM-LY]
"...I'm moving this summer..."
They registered quickly in my head. "W-what? Why?" I asked frantically. "B-but, we've been living here together since forever!"
"I'm going to live with my grandparents, they own this farm out back and my parents and I are going there to help out," she replied sadly, shaking her head. I start to tear up at that. I mean, she was my best friend, and we've done things together since childhood. Why now, of all times?
"We still got time together, and we can still write to each other," Sabrina said with a sad smile. "I'll surely write to you."
"I guess I will, too," I responded, pulling the brunette into a tight hug. "C'mon, let's go do something together before you leave," I said, taking her hand.
For the rest of the spring, we played around, knowing that it probably would be one of the last times we have together. I decided to ask Sabrina a small question.
"How do you do your hair like that?" I ask. Her hair was tied in two braid-like ponytails, which looked pretty cute on her.
"Here, want me to show you?" she asked, and I eagerly nodded. With a bit of help, I was able to twist my hair the same way, and I decided, since we do things together, that I should keep this hairstyle. I mean, it didn't look too bad on me, plus my long hair did get in the way sometimes.
The months passed by, and soon, it was summer. We had said our last goodbyes.
"Pinky-promise that you'll write?" I ask.
She smiled, holding up her small finger. "Pinky-promise," she responded, crossing fingers.
"I'll miss you!" I called as she walked back home. The last thing I saw of her was her wave and her smile.
The next day, I walked over to Sabrina's house. It was, of course, empty, with the sign out front reading "FOR RENT/SALE." I sadly smile as I looked up and down the property. Things do come and go when you least expect them to.
After a few days, I received a small envelope with my name on it. I opened it to read:
Hi, Kim! I hope I wrote the right address, but I do hope you'll write back! I miss you so much, and I do entirely hope that you can visit! I asked my parents, and they said that they'd love to have you over, so I do hope you'll consider!
sincerely, Sabrina
I smiled as I took out a piece of paper from my desk and a pencil as I started my own letter. I did say that I would, and I was going to keep that promise.
