[ROSALIE]
I watch as the slick, blonde-headed boy walked past my locker with his friends, laughing about something.
Ugh, Nikolai. I disliked him because he never bothers to listen to anything I say, even if my sense of knowledge prevails. Literally, every week, he gets into some sort of trouble because he doesn't listen. Does he think anything will come to him with that sort of attitude?
I toss the thought out of my head as I walked with my English book in hand. I sort-of liked English with the literary circles and everything, you could express your thoughts and share them with others who could relate, who knows?
I slightly groaned to myself as the teacher announced that we would be split into separate "random" groups so that we could discuss some points together. I usually don't care about this type of stuff because I get paired with my friends, but random? Eh.
"Rosalie?"
I jumped at the sound of my name. "Yes?"
"You'll be the group leader of Group Three, which are you, Charlotte, Seungho, and Nikolai."
Nikolai?! Seriously? I'm getting grouped with him, out of all people?
We broke out and separated into our groups. Everyone seemed pretty okay with the group choices at least. Nobody was complaining.
"So where should we start?" I ask. I don't want to leave my teammates hanging when we just started.
"Can we start on page two? I'm having a bit of trouble with that," Charlotte responded, to which I agreed. We started to work and help with each others' questions, even Nikolai got involved and helped Seungho with explaining the plots. I'm thankful that he's not messing around.
"Hey, Rosalie, I have a question," a voice said, having me turn around.
"Hm? Something wrong?" I responded.
It was Charlotte. "Why are you staring at Seungho and Nikolai like that?"
I froze. I wasn't staring or anything weird like that! I stuttered to respond, "Nothing! I-"
"Don't tell me, I know everything, you like one of them or somethin?" she cut me off, slyly smiling.
"What? No!" I screeched, then picked the paper up again. Averting her attention with the problems was a tiring job, she kept blabbering about "feelings" and the "emotions," bleh. I'm not too fond about those kinds of stuff, more into my own education for life. I mean, you need to get to a good college and stuff for the future, in case you do start a family and whatever-
"Time's up! Please pass your papers forward!" the teacher called, and with that, the papers were in a stack at the front row of desks. The bell rang, and we were dismissed.
I slipped my backpack on, then walked out the classroom. Everyone rushed past to go to their next classes or break, which caused me to stumble. A few papers spilled from my backpack as I lay on the ground.
I scrambled to pick everything up, then saw Nikolai in the corner of my eye. He probably was going to laugh at me for being such a klutz, I just know it. I tried to ignore him while continuing to pick myself off the ground.
The blonde-haired boy knelt down and picked up one of my papers. "Hey! That's mine!" I said, pulling it out of his hands. He didn't flinch at all, instead, proceeded to pick up another of my papers. He made a small stack of the papers and handed them to me without a further glance as he walked down the hall.
Did he just help me?
I decided to ask him at lunchtime when I passed him again in the halls. "Why did you help me?" I questioned. "I thought you were on bad terms with me."
"Whoever said that?" he responded, shrugging. "Can't a person be helpful once in a while?"
"I- I guess so," I said. "Well, thanks for the help..."
I could hear him stiffle a laugh. "I overheard Charlotte talking in class today about you, that you seemed to like someone, who could it have been?" he then said, to which my face reddened.
"What? No! I don't like anyone!" I stutter. Ugh, stupid embarrassment, always getting the best of me.
"Why is your face all red like that, then?" he said, to which I shot a glare.
I didn't want to say anything else and make a fool out of myself to Nikolai, he would never let me live this down.
"But you know what's really funny?" he asked, lowering his voice almost to a whisper. "I actually admire you and your spunkiness. Although I personally never showed this doesn't mean we are enemies, rather that we raise each other's confidence with our rivalry."
Wow, I never would have imagined to hear that coming from Nikolai. But I guess we still can work things out, after all, everyone has to let go of the past and look far into the future.
