We hide in the shadows, sneaking around town this way. We're wanted in this entire city for crimes, but somehow, we've never been caught. Even though posters all around have us for a reward.

I once was living in this city like a normal person, until I met my best friend. She came as quick as a flash, probably trained for this sort, and I fell victim when she came across my own house. I promised that I wouldn't tell anyone about her or what she did, and she always visited every here and then.

She was my best friend. Friends don't let friends down. Even if she was a criminal and wanted, I joined her in business. It was fun all around, I'll admit it. We joke it off, and always disguised ourselves to never get caught. And if one of us do get caught, we swore to help each other out in times of need.

I can tell you about the time that I got caught myself, even after being trained to avoid these situations. I was captured, but thankfully, she got me out of there quickly using her skills of escape. The police were tracking us down. My heart was beating fast at the pace we were going. The police went the opposite way, thinking we went that way instead. We watched them as they disappeared in the distance, and caught our breath.

We took off our disguises, revealing our normal-everyday looking clothing, shirts and jeans like anybody would wear.

"Will this be the normal?" I asked while taking off my mask, to which she laughed. I liked the sound of her laughter, it makes me want to smile.

"I guess you could say that, I've been doing it my entire life," she responded. Her entire life?

"If it isn't too nosy of a question, why did you start being a criminal like this?"

"Oh...," she said, looking downwards. "I don't really know why I took the life of crime, but ever since my parents passed from a murder, I've always wanted revenge for them. I wanted to learn to protect those who I truly cared about. But everyone turned me away due to me learning these skills, and I felt much hatred towards them. I just... I wanted to let it all go and..."

This was the first time I've seen her cry in front of me. Perhaps she did in private, but this was a first for me. She... she looked really hurt...

"I- I didn't know that... I'm sorry that had to happen to you," I whisper, holding her tightly in my arms. I tried my best to soothe her, and she seemed much comforted by my words. "It's okay, we'll be together, even if they catch us, I'll always be there for you..."

"Thank you... you're the only one who truly gets me...," she said, resting her head on my shoulder. It felt nice after our long day, and watching the night sky felt relaxing. "Also, do you really mean what you said, that we'll always be together no matter what...?"

"Yes, I truly meant it," I replied with a smile. She slowly smiled back, and even with her tear-stained cheeks, I would've said she was beautiful. She meant a lot to me, being one of my only friends who wouldn't leave me in the dust, just like I am to her.

"Now, come on, we've got work to do," she says, standing up and brushing herself off. I took her hand with mine.

"I'm glad I met you that day," I said, and she smiled.

"I should be the one to thank you. You stuck by my side from day one, and you're my friend. That's all that matters."
