-your incorrect quote of the day-

[DASHAWN] Things have actually been going really well with Thiago. Our friendship is in a really good place. Last week I said, "Did you know the wiener dog is neither a wiener, nor a dog?" Instead of saying, "Shut up," he said, "Okay."

[ 26-8-01 ]

I walk down the ash-covered streets where once stood people, once stood life, but now stood in destruction, no life to be found.

I keep walking, telling myself that I'm not alone, but what are the chances? I mean, people are probably still alive in other parts of the world, but not in my area. I don't know where I'm headed or what I'm doing with my life anymore. I've passed streets, houses, and apartments, but much was bare, ashes laid everywhere, and nobody was in sight.

I don't think I'm the last survivor, am I? I haven't seen anybody in the past few days, and this is just turning into a war-scene from a novel I read back in middle school, where everything is dark and dreary, and there's basically nothing to see, except the corpses and the broken down places around town.

Everything's a mess, I see billboards covered with graffiti and knocked over dumpsters, and the wind, dry and making it all spread.

I just have to keep on going.

I have my backpack slung over my shoulder, with a few supplies I packed before this apocalypse. I could remember that scene vividly.

- flashback | [THIRD PERSON] -

"What's going on?" little Vinny, holding a small toy, asked his mother, who looked out the window. The sky, just like now, was grey, the smell of charcoal wafting in the breeze. It wasn't a pleasant time, people were coughing at the smell and just knowing that something bad was going to happen.

Then, the explosions.

People shrieked and ran for their lives. The city was turned into a nightmare, one that people who lived through it would never forget. The lives lost was frightening.

Vinny's mother quickly packed bags with supplies, and gave one to Vinny, who wore it without knowing what was going on. She also took the last few moments to adjust his beret, which was decorated to be like a bear's ears, and his rounded glasses.

"Run, and never come back, do you hear me?" she whispered into his ear. "Be safe, Vinny, know that your father and I will always be with you, no matter what."

She waved a final goodbye at the brown-haired boy, who in return, waved back.

Many years later, he came back to the city, way after it was all over, but instead, found that the remains lay scattered on the streets. Few people managed to survive, but most of them passed due to injuries caused by the heavy, falling wreckage or by the explosion itself.
