Chapter Four- Favorite Liar
Izuku tore his shirt to stop the bleeding, staring at the carnage on display before them. The screams, the cries for help. The fire burning in the distance. All a replay of first years but so much worse.
Aizawa had told them they were training, they had gone to camp, it was as simple as that. It was supposed to be a simple retreat to use all they have learned over the past two years and utilize it.
Well they were using it alright, to fight for their lives.
Midoriya was wrapping up a wound on his side, stanching the blood that had opened from a blow Katsuki wasn't there to witness him take. He was beaten, bleeding, battered, but his eyes were still soft as he looked at the blonde.
"We need to get out of here, Kacchan." He spoke slowly, villains could have been anywhere. Looking for Bakugou.
He was, once again, the target. But, despite the overwhelming fear Katsuki was stubborn.
"You might be right, but I don't care. I'm not fucking leaving." He growled. His beating heart, pounding headache and few scrapes wouldn't keep him away. He wouldn't run away no matter how scared he was.
Midoriya glared him down from where he sat against the tree across from him, hands flexing, the veins prominent and strong, the scars merely accenting that fact.
"Kacchan, I'm not asking you, I am telling you." His tone was dark, holding no room for argument for most but the blonde persisted.
"Deku I'm not going to sit here like a little bitc-"
"Katsuki!" He snapped, green lighting shooting from his jade coloured eyes. He pointed to the blonde. "I couldn't save you last time."
"And you can't save him this time." The rough, gravelly voice. The hand at the back of his neck, tugging him into the portal. Izuku ran towards him. His vision blurred, Midoriya, Todoroki, Shoji, all running towards him.
                              "Stay back, Deku."
                              A blood curdling scream.
                              .•° ✿ °•.
His headache wouldn't go away, it pounded within the depths of his skull like a jackhammer. If he had any luck it would beat right out of his brain, killing him instantly.
Obviously this didn't happen, but one could dream.
He let out a bitter laugh, that's what put him in this predicament in the first place. Dreams, another word he hated. What was this? The third? Who cares. PTSD came back to bite him in the ass, causing a night of tossing and turning because he couldn't close his eyes to see the male desperately trying to save him, the hand at the back of his neck, the portal closing in around his body.
His head was light, high as the sky, eyes blinking harshly as he tried to stay awake or, much rather, ground himself the best he could. It felt like the world was spinning really fast, tipping on its axis as he stumbled against the wall in the dorm's hall. He leaned against it, rubbing his temple just as he heard a door open and almost fell over again if it wasn't for the arm that went around his figure, stopping him from crashing to the floor.
"Easy, what the hell happened?" The voice was soft, deep but soft. A voice that was familiar.
"Fuck off, nerd." He hissed, righting himself with a sharp inhale as he felt a stinging pain zap through his brain.
Izuku pursed his lips, looking up to the dorm ceiling, as if asking for patience, before glancing back at the blonde. "Kacchan, I get that you hate me and all but you almost dropped through my door like Kaminari does when drunk. You get why I'm worried here?"
"I don't fucking hate you, I don't like you. Different." He said despite himself, he knew Midoriya was teasing but nonetheless he had blurted it out. "Now lemme go."
"Did you sleep at all?" Deku ignored him, hand on the small of his back, keeping him upright while another was on his shoulder, a weak attempt to keep him from moving forward.
"Yeah, I fucking did. Go away." He stepped forward but the hand at his back halted him, hesitant as the fingers gripped his t-shirt lightly, twisting the fabric.
                              A second passed. A beat. A breath.
"Fine." Izuku let him go, moving away. Despite the worry creasing his brow he knew better than to keep trying with Bakugou. He knew he was being lied to. He knew Katsuki hadn't slept, nor was he fine, nor did he seem okay. But he let Bakugou lie to him, pushing him away. It was better than violence. He didn't want to break the thin band that held their mediocre relationship together. He paused above the stairs, every fiber in his body telling him to be a good friend, to stay and help, go back and grovel, but where would that get him? He had respect for himself, he wouldn't let his kindness be buried six feet under.
                              He walked away.
Katsuki sighed, glancing to the, previously a wall to him, door. Midoriya's room had been changed around with a few other students. Aizawa, for some reason Bakugou was unaware of, always put Izuku and him together. Saying, usually, that is for bonding purposes, to make them get along. But even after they stopped fighting he kept on doing it, so there was more to it that the boys didn't know.
Midoriya, Bakugou, Kirishima and Todoroki. In that order, lined up one after the other. Eraser head had put Eijirou there on purpose, he just knew he did.
Irrelevant.- He thought to himself, finally getting his bearings and making his way to the kitchen to drown out the never ending pounding. Gripping the fridge he reached for the Advil they had within only for two fingers on a scarred hand to tilt his wrist towards the bottle on the second level on the door. A lower dosage, probably for the best. If he took a higher one he would pass out in class.
The blonde glared over his shoulder but by then Izuku was across the room speaking to four eyes, hands stuffed into his pockets and ignoring the red eyes gazing at him intently. For a second Bakugou considered just taking the original bottle he wanted but emerald eyes narrowed on him, as if he knew, as if he knew what Katsuki was thinking. Those eyes held dominance, as if testing the blonde to go against what he said. But just as the look was there it was gone, Midoriya went to speak to someone else in his friend group.
Reluctantly Katsuki took the bottle he was directed to, the smaller dosage, downing two pills and just as he was about to bite into them someone held a glass of water in front of his face.
                              "Go away, hair for brains."
"Just take the water." Kirishima sighed, holding it closer to the males face and actually having it taken. Katsuki glared at the wall as he downed the glass, shoving it back to Eijirou and beginning to walk away.
"You should eat something, you know." The redhead spoke lowly, so no one could hear. Bakugou stilled, shoulders stiffening, stomach lurching at the thought of eating something.
"I'm okay." He growled "Fuck off."
Mina stood in front of him, giving him a calculated glance. They weren't stupid. Even Kaminari knew something was up, but they got brushed away and sworn off. They got denied every time they tried to help. They could only give so much before they gave up and stuck to just observing. Todoroki gave the proclaimed "Baku-squad" a glance, a confused one at that. Something was obviously up with their leader and they seemed to be doing nothing about it.
Not that he blamed them. They had tried hard enough. But maybe, just maybe, someone else could get to him. The heterochromia eyed male looked to the person in front of him, freckles prominent and standing strong.
The sad thing was. Izuku was through with trying. He had tried enough. He wouldn't do more than the bare minimum no matter how hard his being forced him to the blonde's side.
Katsuki had isolated himself. Pushed away everyone who cared. He was truly alone now.
But was it really worth it in the end?
