Chapter Thirty Six- Dinner plans

One day we won't have to 'come out of the closet'

We'll just say we are in love and that will be all that matters.

After stalling for as long as they could they walked in fashionably late. Izuku had found some makeup wipes in the depths of his bike's seat bag, letting Katsuki wipe off the remnants of the lipstick that had smudged when they had kissed. Bakugou had teased him the whole time, remnants of how he acted in their first year seemed to lace back into his personality gracefully.

He was changing, in good ways or bad it didn't seem to matter. It was beautiful. Izuku Midoriya was smitten, he became more self aware of that fact the more time wore on. Young love.

How sweet it was.

Whe they walked in heads turned, disbelieving and disapproving looks seemed to vary. The few odd kids there with their parents seemed prideful, a few restraining the urge to give a thumbs up. When kids saw someone near their age rebel it gave them a strong surge of self satisfaction, as if it proved that yes it can happen. You're not alone.

Hell, one mother of three looked proud as ever. Her smile brightened, eyes alight as she looked at the two teenagers. She indeed did give a thumbs up, the faux gold sheen of her gown unable to match the proud glow she emitted. A complete stranger who was totally and utterly happy with seeing this rebellion.

The two stuck out like a sore thumb.

When Izuku gave the last name to the waiter they seemed to deflate. Midoriya had no doubt his father probably insulted them when he had walked in. His dad had no patience for waiters and waitresses, his dissatisfied look bore down on them.

They smiled at Izuku though, almost apologetically. "By the corner, the booth. Do you want me to walk you?"

"No, it's alright. Thank you." He gave them a dazzling smile, it truly did brighten their day when he added. "Thank you so much for your help and patience, I know he's not the easiest."

"It was no problem, it's fine, thank you so much sir. I mean um-" They stuttered. "Sorry, you probably don't- Or you do, jeez I can't assume..."

"It's fine, sir works perfectly." He chuckled, something about them reminded him of himself. It wasn't just the stutter or the tripping over the words but also the hyper aware nervousness to not hurt people's feelings. The shifty eyes, not knowing whether to meet someone elses gaze or just stare down at the floor.

Katsuki looked at Midoriya, noticing the recognition in his eyes. The way he saw a reflection of himself. How he used to be and sometimes is today. It was sweet how he was making sure the waiter was comfortable, assuring that everything was fine and thanking them again before they walked off.

You're too kind sometimes- Katsuki found himself thinking. -You care so much about how others feel, how they think, and sometimes it's sweet. But you can't let others walk all over you.

But isn't that where Bakugou came into play? Was it not him who made sure no one walked over Izuku? Was that not the spout of his bullying? The protection? It was odd how at random intervals he was realizing he needed to get his shit together.

The looks and stares they ignored, it was Inko Midoriya who stood out. Her stunning bright dark green eyes focusing on her son, she could never hate on him. She applauded how he looked, in her head that is. She smiled fondly about how grown up he looked now, having lost some of the childish attributes in his features he had had the last time she had seen him.
