C H A P T E R 6 8: A voice out of nowhere
"M-mabuti't sumakto ako ng dating. Mabuti't naligtas ko ang kapatid mo, hija."
"M-Mang Nestor!" sigaw ko. I carefully placed his head on my lap as I was shrugging his shoulder. Umaagos na ang mga luha ko habang nakatingin sa kutsilyong nakabaon sa sikmura niya. "W-why did you do that?"
I turned my gaze on Perv who tried to stand up. Sapo niya pa rin ang sugat niya sa hita. "P-Perv, tulungan mo ako! Idala natin siya kay Steven! He needs to be heale--"
I stopped when Mang Nestor suddenly caressed my cheeks that was soaked with my tears. "H-hija... patawarin mo ako sa mga nagawa ko."
Napaawang ang bibig ko. I swallowed the lump in my throat. "H-hindi niyo na po kailangang humingi ng tawad. You saved me and my brother. And that was already enough. Kailangan ka na naming tulungan. Gagamutin ka na namin. Tutulungan ka namin, Mang N-Nestor. So hold up."
Perv and I tried to lift Mang Nestor but we failed. Mang Nestor's too heavy and Perv can't properly carry him because he also had a severe wound.
Muli namin siyang inilapag sa tiles. Nanginginig na ang mga kamay kong puno na ng black and white na likido.
"K-kumapit lang po kayo. Tutulungan ka po namin," wika ko habang patuloy na lumuluha.
He gasped for air as he swallowed hard. Halata na ang paghihirap niya. Tumingin siya sa akin at ngumiti. "Hindi na ako aabot, hija. Iwan niyo na ako. Magiging pabigat la--"
"No! I can't let you die nang wala kaming nagagawa para tulungan ka!" wika ko. I desperately looked at Perv who's also wincing in pain. Nakaupo na siya ruon at tila hirap na hirap na rin. "P-Perv... please, tulungan natin si Mang Nestor."
