Enemy

Alex Pov

I was sitting in my office as someone knocked at the door.

"Come in" I said not bothering who it was.

"Boss, the formal dance of one of out allies is tomorrow" said one of my men.

I looked up and said "You can leave now. Don't bother me again if it's nothing important." I heard what he has said but I didn't care to explain myself. Why should I?

After a few minutes I tried to close my eyes and sleep for a bit, while sitting on my chair. I was fucking tired. The constant stress of the mafia was tiring.

I laid all of my belongings on my table to rest more comfortably.

But then I got interrupted by another knock on my door.

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT AGAIN. YOU MOTHERFUCKER!!!" I screamed, as I heard the person's footsteps going into the other direction.

I knew directly that it was Lilac. Nobody of my men or anyone else would ever run away when I reacted that way. She's so fucking innocent and I keep on hurting her.

I decided to stand up and go to her room.

The moment I was in front of her door I heard her crying and I felt my heart tightening.

"Lilac, can you open the door I didn't know that it was you." I said as I kept on knocking.

But there was no answer.

"Lilac come on now, if you are not going to open the door than I'm coming in" there was still no answer.

I opened the door with the spare key as I saw Lilac sitting on the floor crying, while I walked up to her.

Her breathing was so fast, so I knew that she had another panic attack. I had to calm her down, she was still weak and underweight. So there was the risk that she could pass out.

"Hey, I'm sorry for snapping okay? I didn't mean it Lilac." I said as I hugged her tightly.

She was still not talking to me. And I didn't fucking know what to do.

But she began to calm down.

I was getting angry but I tried to control it. I was not used to the closeness or to being kind and helpful at all.

So I tried to change the topic to get her talk to me and calm her further down.

"Lilac I wanted to ask you something. There is a formal dance from one of our allies and I wanted to ask you if you would like to join me?" still no answer 

I was getting inpatient while I was hugging her and waiting for that damn response.

"I-I don't know, I'm scared to be with other mafias. I don't want t-to get hurt" she stuttered as  she look at her hands nervously. She finally stopped crying.

"Lilac I will be there the whole time and we won't stay long." I reassured her.

"Okay" she said as I stopped hugging her. I stood up to make my way out of the room.

Lilac learned a lot of the mafia since she began to stay in the mansion, but she's still scared of me and everyone else she's just getting along with our cook, Anna.

I guess that sooner or later she will get accustomed to all of this.

"Lilac I'm really sorry for scaring you." I told her as I left the room without looking back.

I was really angry and frustrated for treating her like this, but I can't help it. It is fucking hard to control my anger.

So I made my way back to the office, to take a nap on the couch. I had to deal with the built up anger in some way, if it's sleeping, breaking something or killing someone.

Midnight

I woke up as someone shook me gently while I was sleeping.

"A-Alex, can you wake up? I-I'm scared to stay in my room. Someone threw something on the window." She said, and my eyes shot immediately open. I stood up to take my gun which startled her.

"Lilac stay in my office and lock the door" I said to her as she nodded with tears in her eyes.

I rubbed the sleep of my eyes so I could focus more easily and rushed downstairs as fast as I could. 

"EVERYONE FOLLOW ME NOW!!!!" I screamed at my men as we ran outside, fully aimed. Then I saw a silhouette of a man walking away. I didn't miss the chance and shot directly into his direction.

A screamed followed as the man collapsed to the ground.

We run into that direction to take him hostage.

"Look who we got here, a fucking pussy that likes to scare others" I said in a calm voice as I spit at him.

"Tie him up and get him into the safe house. Oh and let the bullet in his shoulder. That stupid cunt should bleed out. And when he tries to wiggle himself out, cut one of his fingers off. You heard me?"

"Yes Boss." they answered in unison.

My men picked him up as I made my way back to Lilac.

I knocked on my office door.

"Lilac it's me Alex, you can open the door now." I told her, while waiting for her to open.

And then I heard her unlocking the door as she run into me. She was hugging me tightly while crying.

"Shhhhh it's okay Lilac I took care of him. He can't bother you anymore." I was stoking her hair as she calmed down.

And there was it again that feeling of warmth. What is that feeling?

"Lilac come let me bring you to your room" I said as I broke the silence.

I took Lilac's hand in mine and lead her to her room.

Her small hand fit so perfectly into mine, I thought as I snapped back into reality the moment  Lilac talked.

"Goodnight" she said, taking her hand out of mine as she walked into her room closing the door. I didn't even realized that we had reached her room.

And the place where her hand touched mine suddenly felt cold.

There was this cold and empty feeling when she let go of me.

What is fucking happening with me?
