lifting weights

The next day, we were dragged out of our rooms to start training in the camp. I thought the teachers were going to let us do whatever we wanted the first few days; but I should've known they weren't going to spoil us. I refused to train nonetheless. I wasn't going to spend the rest of my summer working out. I'd rather spend it sleeping in and binge watching my shows, and I made sure to do just that. But after half an hour into my series, hiding in my room from the teachers, Aizawa caught me and dragged me all the way outside with his scarf, nullifying my quirk.

"(l/n). You were brought here to train; not to sit around and do nothing all day," Aizawa told me, "You aren't an exemption from the others. In fact, you're the one who needs to be out there more than the rest."

But I persisted. I kept on pulling myself out of Sensei's grasp, rebelling.

"Come on, Sensei! I brought more applesauce, if that's what you wan-"

"That won't do it this time, I'm afraid," he interrupted, "Besides, the school provided me with an endless supply to last me until we leave this place. So you have no power over me, (l/n)."

I grunted, defeated. But I wouldn't let Sensei get away with it easily. I stopped walking, letting myself get dragged against the floor by Sensei. I thought that if I had to be obligated to do something I didn't want to do, then Aizawa had to struggle with carrying me.

"You're a pain..."

When Sensei let me go after going outside, retracting his scarf from my body, I stood up from the ground and examined our surroundings. I noticed the others training hard with their quirks, and could even hear some of them shouting from a mile away. I gulped, nervous. How gruesome was my training going to be? Even class 1-B was here with us, and seeing them all so determined from afar made my adrenaline pump me.

"So what exactly will I be-"

But before I could finish, Aizawa tiredly pointed at his left, and as I followed his direction, I saw a lonely barbell on the ground just a few feet away from us.

"I've been watching your fights closely, (l/n)," Aizawa mentioned, "You seem to depend on lighter objects for your quirk like your chains or the bullets. And that led me to conclude you don't really train to lift heavier objects."

Sensei walked toward the weight as I stuffed my hands in my pockets.

"So your training as of now is to lift that weight."

My eyes widened, surprised. I thought Aizawa was going to make me do a thousand pushups or something, but he seemed to underestimate my quirk.

"That's a piece of cake!" I laughed, confident.

I walked toward the barbell and bent down to grab it. But just when I tried to pull it upwards, my back almost broke.

"Oh, and I forgot to mention; that barbell weighs 900kg," Aizawa explained, "That's 1000 pounds on each disk. So even if you shortened your range to increase the force of your magnetism, you'll still have trouble lifting those."

I struggled to even lift my arms. My feet trembled, unable to sustain that kind of force. I could feel my body getting sweaty and my face burning red like a tomato from all the pressure I was trying to lift.

"H-How did you find a 1-ton barbell?!"

Aizawa shrugged, walking toward a tree.

"You'll be lifting those for now. And until you can, you're stuck here with me."

"For now?!" I repeated, defeated.

Sensei bent over under the tree and handed me some workout gloves and wraps.

"And to make sure you don't run off somewhere else," he added, "I'll be here monitoring you."

Aizawa imprisoned himself inside his yellow sleeping bag, drinking his applesauce from a pouch.

"So I might as well sit back and enjoy the show."

I shot him a dirty look when Sensei started cackling inside his sleeping bag, grinning at me. I even noticed people looking at me; both students and teachers. I started getting all nervous and sweaty from all of the stares, and when I looked down at the barbell and tried lifting it again, I couldn't even move it.

"This is the worst summer ever!"
