Late the following afternoon, the noble guests begin to arrive on Asgard. Surprisingly, King Naris appears to be attended the celebration without the company of his daughter. He is swiftly greeted by Loki, who is confused by Princess Dahlia's mysterious absence.
Loki: "Will your delightful daughter not be gracing us with her presence this evening?"
Naris: "I am afraid she has been feeling rather under the weather today and was in no fit state to join us, but she sends her sincerest apologies".
Loki: "Such a pity and no apologies necessary I can assure you".
Naris: "So are the rumours I hear true, Allfather?"
Loki: "That depends on what you may have heard".
Naris: "Rumour has it that you are courting not one, but two princesses? The Princess Milea and that delightful creature whom met when I was last here. What was her name again?"
Loki: "Princess Valanya, and yes the rumours are indeed true. I find it is always good to keep one's options open".
Naris: "I am certain they will both look positively radiant this evening".
Loki: "Here comes Princess Milea's father now".
Halfdan: "Allfather, thank you for your most gracious invitation".
Loki: "King Naris, this is King Halfdan of Jormir".
Naris: "Ah yes" he states, seemingly unimpressed by the unfamiliar King.
Halfdan: "I have heard that my daughter has some competition here this evening".
Loki: "Milea and Valanya have actually become rather good friends as of late".
Halfdan: "Not too good I hope?" he asks worriedly, knowing of his daughters desires towards other women.
Agnarr: "Allfather, it has been a long time" a voice calls from behind the them.
Loki is the most apprehensive about having King Agnarr present on Asgard for the celebration, and with good reason.
Loki: "Well if it isn't the King of Alfheim himself?"
Agnarr: "I must admit, I have not set foot in this realm since I was a small boy. Was there always this much gold?"
Naris: "It is good to see you again, old friend" he greets Agnarr with a superior attitude.
Agnarr: "I ought to have known you would be here" he replies with a sombre tone.
It did not take much for Loki to pick up on the obvious tension between these two Kings as they were hardly subtle.
Halfdan: "I take it that you two already know one another?"
Agnarr: "Our fathers were good friends you might say".
The four of them enter the ball room together as further guests arrive. Naris scans the room and the other nobles visiting, clearly believing himself above everyone attending with the exception of Loki.
Halfdan: "So where is that daughter of mine? Late as always" he sighs in annoyance.
Loki: "She and Valanya are getting ready together this evening".
What Loki said was indeed true and Milea had also become privy to the plan. She was now to be a key part in the ruse to deceive Naris.
Loki had decided that it would be wise to give the impression that he favoured one princess over the other.
He wanted King Naris to believe that Valanya disliked having to share his affections and wished for a courtship in which someone desires only her.
With Naris being the envious man that he is known to be, he would hopefully see this as an opportunity and attempt to lure Valanya away for himself.
