Thor had spent the entire night sitting by his mother's bedside as she grew weaker. Dawn was fast approaching when she awoke to see Loki entering her room, taking the place of Thor so that his brother could get some much needed rest.Frigga: "My baby boy" she smiles.
Loki: "I am here, mother".
Frigga: "Such a handsome man you grew into".
Loki: "What will I ever do without you?"
Frigga: "I will always be by your side, in this life and the next".
Loki: "Without your guidance I fear that I will make many wrong decisions".
Frigga: "Always follow your heart and it will guide you on the right path".
Loki: "It has not always done so".
Frigga: "Everything happens for a reason, Loki" she reassures him.
Loki: "She is far happier without me in her life".
Frigga: "If you truly believe that then you are unworthy of her love".
Loki: "I was never worthy of her".
Frigga: "Your father, he calls to me" she utters, looking out of the window at the impending sunrise.
Loki: "Please do not go, not yet" he begs as tears fall from his eyes.
Frigga: "It is time for you to tell her the truth, my son. Tell her of her true heritage, marry her, have many children and be happy".
Loki: "You told me that the truth would put her in grave danger?"
Frigga: "She is no longer in need of your protection. She simply needs your love to give her the strength necessary to protect herself".
Loki: "I love you, mother".
Frigga: "And I will always love you, Loki. Be brave and continue to make me and your father proud" she says as her eyes begin to close for the final time.
He presses her hand to his cheek as her life slips away at the exact moment the sun rises over a new day on Asgard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am awoken in the morning by the sound of bells ringing throughout the kingdom. The last time I had heard that sound was the night that Helbindi come to Asgard.
The very thought of them makes me anxious while I climb out of bed and get dressed quickly. I go to the door and find a guard standing there when I open it.
Guard: "The Allfather has sent me to inform you of the Queen Mother's passing".
Me: "She...she is gone?" I ask in disbelief.
Guard: "I am truly sorry, princess" he tells me before he leaves.
After I close the door, I fall down to my knees unable to contain my emotions. I fear that I may never be able to cease these tears from flowing again.
Ruth and Sara soon enter my chambers and kneel down next to me, crying tears of their own as they wrap their arms around me while we attempt to comfort one another.
Me: "She is gone" I accept the fact that I will never hear her sweet, soothing voice again.
Ruth: "The King was with her when she passed".
Sara: "It is a comfort to know that she was not alone in her final moments".
My thoughts immediately go to him and how he must be feeling right now. I want nothing more than to be there with him, hold him in my arms and take away his pain.
